London: William Clowes and Sons Limited, 1889. First edition. Original burgundy boards with titles and decoration of a sabre to the front board. Slight fading to the spine. chipping to the top edge. The front and rear hinges are loose to the boards, and the end papers cracking. Still holding though. Internally in very good condition with a touch of darkening only. Alfred Hutton FSA (10 March 1839 – 18 December 1910) was a Victorian officer of the King's Dragoon Guards, writer, antiquarian and swordsman. He originated the first English revival of historical fencing, and after retiring from the army, went on to teach stage fencing.

Probablement une édition française piratée (même son nom était mal orthographié). Toile avec dos et coins en bougran. Un peu abîmé, mais tient bien. Intérieurement propre et bien rangé, mais avec des rousseurs modérées sur les pages. This has two numbers printed upon it - so seems to have been used in at least two collections (No 447 and No 459). The engraving is circa 1830. Good clean impression and colouring. A little darkening / mustiness. 220 by 320mm (8¾ by 12½ inches)
