London: R. Knaplock, at the Bishop's Head, 1718. First Edition of this important treatise on Witchcraft. A survey of a number of cases of alleged witchcraft and examining witch trials. Chapter 5 examines the Salem trials, and condemns Cotton Mather's conclusions. Recent half leather binding with marbled boards. Gilt titles to black label on the spine. Two of the leaves are present in a high quality facsimile (p1/2) (with the engraved heading and beginning of the dialogue) and (p117/8) from chapter 8. The rest of the book is in very nice condition. The leather has just a touch of rubbing. The edges of the pages are slightly darkened, but overall in very good shape, with just the occasional stain not affecting the text. The title has a little marking, with a small chip to the corner.

Louvain: Chez C. L. Fonteyn, 1845. A second edition. Text in French. Later stiff card boards with blue cloth spine. - Both have a touch of darkening and rubbing. Owner's name to the front end paper. The rest of the book is clean and tidy, but with mild to moderate foxing. 120 pages. One folding map and one folding illustration to the rear of the book. Overall a very nice example. The author is attempting to demonstrate that religions around the world, shared core belief with Christianity from a time before the Jewish faith. Hence he had a "Christiano-centric" interpretation of primitive American mythology and religious customs.

Antuerpiae: Christophori Plantini, 1578. A fairly recent binding with the original (?) boards laid onto the new binding. label with title and label to spine. Presented from the rear to the front of the book. Plantin's printer's emblem* to the title page, and historiated initial to the first paragraph. The book ends with a royal privilege from Emperor Maximilian II. The fairly recent binding is tidy, with a little rubbing to the spine edge only. The original binding has been neatly laid onto the leather, in a contrasting colour. New end papers. On the front end paper is the inscription "ex lib Guil Whitington 1679" Some of the pages to the beginning of the book have been neatly conserved and rebuilt to the corners. The rest of the book is in clean, if slightly darkened condition. Overall a very nice copy. Christophe Plantin (1520-1589) was a Dutch typographer and printer. He was to suffer frequently due to the religious struggles of the time (his press once confiscated for heresy) and the political upheavals. Despite this, his firm continued until the 1860's and the building which housed it is now the Plantin-Moretus Museum. (the Spanish destroyed Antwerp whilst he was based there). * Plantin's emblem carries the motto "Labore et Constantia" ("By Labour and Constancy") surrounds the symbol of a compass held by a hand extending from a bank of clouds and inscribing a circle. The centre point of the compass indicates constancy, the moving point which renders the circle is the labour. The binding is holding firmly, though rubbed and scuffed to surface, chipped to extremities and abraded to corners with the spine sunned, small white painted code to base of spine. Contents are holding firmly, a few joints a little strained but generally in good clean condition if a little toned, with some light scattered foxing, occasional creases or dust marking and a few light marginal water stains, though nothing too disfiguring. Boston M.A: Red Wheel / Weiser, 2004. On its publication in the 19th century, Barddas stirred controversy. Some critics claimed that it was completely made up, or based on forgeries. Others defended it by pointing out similarities to other surviving Celtic documents with clear provenance.
Photo-offset from the first printing, this edition of Barddas includes the original Welsh on verso pages with the English translation running on the recto pages. 425 pp.
In original dust jacket. 240 x 160mm (9½ x 6¼ inches John Matthews has been a practicing shaman for over 30 years and is a leading authority on Celtic traditions, Grail and Arthurian legends, and the tarot. He is the author of a number of successful divinatory systems based on early spiritual beliefs, and has acted as an adviser on several motion pictures, including Jerry Bruckheimer's King Arthur.

London: Barmerlea Book Sales Ltd, 1940. First edition. Limited to 200 copies. Number in pen No. 46 to colophon. Hardback blue cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Neat ex libris to front pastedown. Front free end paper has at some point been detached, and is now held in place with archival tape. 61 pages of text and then a separate plates section where all plates are protected by (some slightly darkened and some loose) tissue inserts. Clean copy of a scarce item. 290 x 225 mm (11½ x 8¾ inches). From the bookplate, we can see that this book belonged to Helge Loewenberg-Domp. She was a German musician and music (piano) seller of Jewish parents who escaped to the Netherlands before the war. She later went into hiding with her family, and survived the war. (Her brother died in the camps). She was one of the first to import Japanese pianos to the Netherlands. In the 1970's she was knighted to the Order of Orange-Naussau. Three years later, she founded the Helge Domp Foundation for Music for young musicians. She died in 2021.

Bruxelles: A. Loosfelt, 1887. First Edition. Scarce. An attractive work, with a colour illustration of a young woman being mesmerized to the front board, and esoteric symbols to the rear board. Softback. Unfortunately the book block has split at some point. Now repaired with archival tape, but still needs handling with care. A touch of edge wear. Many pages uncut. IV, 184 pages. 190 by 120 mm (7½ by 4¾ inches).
See Caillet, A. L. Manuel Bibliographique des Scineces Psychiques ou Occultes #103378 describes the work as a veritable compendium. Première édition. Rare. Un travail attrayant, avec une illustration en couleur d'une jeune femme hypnotisée sur la couverture, et des symboles ésotériques à l'arrière. Couverture souple. Malheureusement, le bloc de livre s'est divisé à un moment donné. Maintenant réparé avec du ruban d'archivage, mais doit encore être manipulé avec soin. Une touche d'usure des bords.
