Paris: Léotaud, publisher, quai Saint-Michel, 11, 1848. Lithograph of the dramatic death of the Général de Bréa and his Aide de Camp Mangin at the hands of insurgents from the Fontainebleau barrier. The murders took place at the Maison-Blanche guard house in Paris, during the June Rebellion. An important part of the French Revolution of 1848. This is a clean and tidy copy, with an overall slight darkening. Very nice copy. A very similar engraving, based on this one, was used in "Journées illustrées de la Révolution de 1848". Paris Illustré, 1885. A steel engraving illustrating the descent of the world's first hydrogen balloon in Gonesse (Val-d'Oise). This appeared in a special edition of Paris illustré in 1885. Hand coloured. Framed in brown and gilt passe partout (unglazed). Plate dimensions 95 by 140 mm (3¾ x 5½ inches). Mount dimensions 220 x 255 mm (8¾ x 10 inches). The illustration is in excellent condition, with fine colouring. No damage to the illustration, or the frame. London: F.G. Moon, 1842. A lovely copy of this tinted lithograph, produced by the skilled lithographer Louis Haghe and published by F.G. Moon. The publisher's details are printed in the plate, and state that it was printed 1st December 1842. Framed in a more recent dark green passe partout and dark hardwood frame. The visible area of the lithograph is 540 x 380 mm (21¼ by 15 inches). It will be slightly larger under the passe partout - the sheet size is 23 5/8" x 17 1/4". Frame size is 720 x 560 mm (28¼ x 22 inches). If sold online will be sold without frame. David Roberts, (1796-1864) was a successful Scottish artist, in 1838 traveled throughout the Middle East and produced many paintings. On his return to England, he and lithographer Louis Haghe published a hand-coloured six volume set of his works covering Egypt and Nubia and the Holy Land.

An engraved poster welcoming the new year of 1896. A naked woman representing 1896 is at the helm of a boat, which has the debris of 1895 in its wake. Tipped onto white backing cardboard. Signed in the plate A. Willette. To the bottom right is 'Phg V. Michel'. The debris of 1895 includes the words 'Panama' and 'Arton'. These appear to relate to Émile Arton, a Jewish financier who was arrested in November 1895 for his part in financing in the Panama crisis. Adolph Willette was strongly anti-Semitic.
Poster is clean and tidy with no significant marks. Black and white. Overall in Very Good condition. Poster size: 610 x 460 mm (24 x 18 inches).

Adolphe Léon Willette (1857–1926) was a French painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and lithographer, as well as an architect of the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret. Willette ran as an "anti-Semitic" candidate in the 9th arrondissement of Paris for the September 1889 legislative elections. Rare. Une affiche gravée accueillant le nouvel an 1896. Une femme nue représentant 1896 est à la barre d'un bateau, qui a dans son sillage les débris de 1895. Renversé sur carton blanc. Signé dans la planche A. Willette. En bas à droite se trouve 'Phg V. Michel'. Les débris de 1895 comprennent les mots « Panama » et « Arton ». Celles-ci semblent concerner Émile Arton, un financier juif arrêté en novembre 1895 pour son rôle dans le financement de la crise de Panama. Adolph Willette était fortement antisémite.

Has the "C.N.P.D. Stamps of Mass Destruction Limited Edition". This is one of James Cauty's famous anti-occupation of Iraq protest prints. Originally designed to be viewed through a zograscope. A view down the Thames with Westminster bridge. Good. Narrow margins. Slightly wrinkled. Water stain on the right. A zograscope is an optical device for magnifying flat images, as the shape of the lens enhanced the sense of the depth shown in the picture. The precursor to 3D images!
