Parme: Editions Artegrafica Silva, 1986. A very nice copy of this limited edition Catalogue Raisonne with several editions. Copy 779/3000 (numbered to colophon at the rear). This copy comes with the signed coloured lithograph "L'angoisse" (#59/185 of the lithograph) Drawn in sanguine, black crayon and lead pencil, this is produced on high quality art paper and is in its own folder. The book is also signed and dedicated to the front end paper to Jacques and Ghislaine Berniere, dated Riyad 1990. Berniere was the French ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1986-1991 (including throughout the Gulf War) and was later the ambassador to Belgium. Vicari's visits to Saudi Arabia are well documented and photographed in the catalogue. In addition there is a French menu card dated the same day (Presumably from the embassy) showing the dinner menu. To the verso, Vicari has drawn a sketch of some of the attendees, and signed this. The book is black cloth, with gilt titles and a colour picture by Vicari tipped onto the front board. In good, clean, sound condition. The book is held within a black clamshell case. There is a little rubbing and marking to the cover, but still attractive. 310 pages. Andrew Vicari was a Welsh portrait painter, who became the official portrait artist of the Saudi Royal Family (where there are three museums dedicated to his work.) He died, aged 83 in 2016. 360 by 270mm (14¼ by 10¾ inches).

Each plate is signed, the titles are hand written in pencil by Robida, at the foot of the card: "Les Evacués italiens", "Départ des territoriaux", "Le dernier jour du Pont de Compiègne", "les Fugitifs", "Le Prisonnier", "Convoi belge échappé de Namur", "Le Premier Taube!" The cream slipcase has a pasted on title sheet, with a view of soldier on a quayside looking at a destroyed bridge. A little darkening and marking to the boards, and the spine of the folder is quite damaged. This has been reinforced from the inside with archival tape. Original closure ties are present. Inside, the work is in a stiff card folder (slightly darkened) with a title showing soldiers marching past a cathedral. This is signed by Robida in pencil. The first gather is the text sheets (4 pages, three of which are printed) with the image from the front board replicated. This is darkened to the edges, but clean. The seven plates are in lovely condition, each with a tissue guard. A scarce piece of world war one illustration. Compiègne, in the Oise department, was Robida's home town. He could not have known when he created this work that Compiègne would play a deeply symbolic and strategic role as the site of the armistice that ended the conflict. The famous signing of the armistice was in the Forest of Compiègne. The town was close to the Western Front and saw many troop movements and bombardments.

Albert Robida (1848–1926) was a French illustrator, caricaturist, lithographer, and novelist, celebrated both as an artist and as a visionary social commentator of the Belle Époque period. In 1880, Robida co-founded and edited La Caricature. Première édition. Boîtier cartonné avec des planches gravées. Édition limitée à 125 exemplaires seulement (il s'agit de l'exemplaire n° 113). Chaque planche est signée, les titres sont écrits à la main au crayon par Robida, au pied de la carte : "Les Evacués italiens", "Départ des territoriaux", "Le dernier jour du Pont de Compiègne", "les Fugitifs", "Le Prisonnier", "Convoi belge échappé de Namur", "Le Premier Taube !". Les attaches d'origine sont présentes. À l'intérieur, l'œuvre se trouve dans une chemise en carton rigide (légèrement assombrie) avec un titre montrant des soldats défilant devant une cathédrale. Elle est signée au crayon par Robida. Le premier rassemblement est constitué des feuilles de texte (4 pages, dont trois sont imprimées) avec l'image de la première planche reproduite. Les bords sont assombris, mais l'ouvrage est propre. Les sept planches sont en très bon état, chacune d'entre elles étant accompagnée d'un papier de garde. Une pièce rare d'illustration de la première guerre mondiale. Compiègne, dans l'Oise, était la ville natale de Robida. Il ne pouvait pas savoir, lorsqu'il créa cette œuvre, que Compiègne jouerait un rôle profondément symbolique et stratégique en tant que lieu de l'armistice qui mit fin au conflit. La célèbre signature de l'armistice a eu lieu dans la forêt de Compiègne. La ville était proche du front occidental et a été le théâtre de nombreux mouvements de troupes et de bombardements.

In original slipcase with label to board. Signed by Antoni Tàpies to colophon and numbered. Illustrated with 9 original lithographs in colour, including a lovely colourful embossed lithograph as the rear cover. With double page spreads, and one triple page. 16 black and white reproductions. Text by Michel Tapié - "Avec Antoni Tàpies" and by Jacques Dupin "Devant Tàpies". An excellent example. The stiff card slipcase is still in good, strong condition, with just a touch of handling to the grey boards. Title label to cover. The folder is in excellent clean condition, with no damage. The copy of the magazine itself, with attractive, rough cut edges, is in pristine condition. There is a tiny amount of darkening / offsetting only. The first Tàpies exhibition at the Galerie Maeght: 35 paintings from 1965 to 1967390 by 290mm (15¼ by 11½ inches). At the time of cataloguing this is the only copy of this deluxe signed edition available.

A very nice copy. Authorised biography of the Cockney jazz musician, published in 1985 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Nat Gonella and the Georgians" first live appearance on stage. Nat Gonella (1908–1998) was a prominent British jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and bandleader. 171 pages. 22cm x 15cm.

Boulanger was a prolific novelist and Olympic fencer. He obtained this inscribed copy towards the beginning of his career 304 pages. 200 by 160mm (7¾ by 6¼ inches).

With 3 hand-coloured Phototypes after Georges Rouault reproduced and pattern-coloured by Jacomet. Private half vellum binding of the time, illustrated original cover with binding, the covers with pretty calico printed paper. One of 240 copies on velin paper (from a total edition of 250). This copy is not numbered, but is stated that it is the Author's copy. We have seen other copies also designated as Author's copy so this is presumably one of a small number given to the author for distribution rather than THE copy. In very nice, clean condition. Internally spotless. Rouault (1871-1958) was one of the most accomplished book artists of his period. He had a particular interest in clowns and these illustrations to Henry Church's text anticipate his Cirque (1931) and Cirque de l'Etoile filante (1938). Their expression of figures and lyricism make Rouault the first of the Expressionists. Chapon 210, 244. 38 pages. 190 by 140mm (7½ by 5½ inches).

Original buckram with gilt titles and design to front board. yellow end papers. armorial bookplate of Lord Vernon (MP and supporter of the 1832 reform bill) to the front paste down. Cruikshank's signature is to blank page between end paper and half title (possibly an insertion). The verso of this leaf has an advert for Cruikshank's Table book pasted to it. The rest of the book is in good, clean condition, with no significant flaws. Included are a few loose clippings of Cruikshank's, including a title leaf from issue 1 of the serial of the Omnibus. 250 by 160mm (9¾ by 6¼ inches). Vi, 300 pp. 16 page publisher's catalogue tipped into rear. Enclosed is a C1970 booksellers card-index entry and a sterling price. Barham, (Ingoldsby) died 1845. This work was published (and presumably inscribed) just before publication of the Ingoldsby Legends. The two author's greatly admired each others work. George Cruikshank (1792–1878) was among the foremost British caricaturists and illustrators of the nineteenth century, widely celebrated as the "modern Hogarth" for the biting wit and moral insight of his art. Over a long and industrious career he executed more than ten thousand designs, ranging from political and social satires to illustrations for leading writers of his day. His spirited draughtsmanship and acute observation left an enduring imprint on Victorian visual culture, exposing with equal skill the follies of public life and the darker habits of the age, notably the evils of intemperance.

The book bears the bookplate of André Bruel, a poet, editor and publisher who lived in Angers. Dark blue leather binding and matching blue boards with gilt detail. Art deco style titles in gilt to the spine. The spine has faded to a dark grey and has a touch of rubbing, but still an attractive binding. Marbled end papers. Dark blue / grey soft covers with a pale blue embossed design are bound in. Internally in very good condition. Illustrations throughout by Jacques Mercier. An attractive copy. Unpaginated.
