The book bears the bookplate of André Bruel, a poet, editor and publisher who lived in Angers. Dark blue leather binding and matching blue boards with gilt detail. With 3 hand-coloured Phototypes after Georges Rouault reproduced and pattern-coloured by Jacomet. Private half vellum binding of the time, illustrated original cover with binding, the covers with pretty calico printed paper. One of 240 copies on velin paper (from a total edition of 250). This copy is not numbered, but is stated that it is the Author's copy. We have seen other copies also designated as Author's copy so this is presumably one of a small number given to the author for distribution rather than THE copy. In very nice, clean condition. Internally spotless. Rouault (1871-1958) was one of the most accomplished book artists of his period. He had a particular interest in clowns and these illustrations to Henry Church's text anticipate his Cirque (1931) and Cirque de l'Etoile filante (1938). Their expression of figures and lyricism make Rouault the first of the Expressionists. Chapon 210, 244. 38 pages. 190 by 140mm (7½ by 5½ inches).

In original slipcase with label to board. Signed by Antoni Tapies to colophon and numbered. Illustrated with 9 original lithographs in colour by Antoni Tapies, including a lovely colourful embossed lithograph as the rear cover. with double page spreads, and one triple page. 16 black and white reproductions. Text by Michel Tapié - "Avec Antoni Tapiès" and by Jacques Dupin "Devant Tapies". An excellent example. The stiff card slipcase is still in good, strong condition, with just a touch of handling to the grey boards. Title label to cover. The folder is in excellent clean condition, with no damage. The copy of the magazine itself, with attractive, rough cut edges, is in pristine condition. There is a tiny amount of darkening / offsetting only. The first First Tapies exhibition at the Galerie Maeght: 35 paintings from 1965 to 1967390 by 290mm (15¼ by 11½ inches). At the time of cataloguing this is the only copy of this deluxe signed edition available.

Untrimmed pages. Internally clean and tidy, with a little darkening to the pages only. Some small edgewear to the rear blanks. A very nice copy. Talvart & Place, I, 7 A. Boulanger was a prolific novelist and Olympic fencer. He obtained this inscribed copy towards the beginning of his career 304 pages. 200 by 160mm (7¾ by 6¼ inches).

Parme: Editions Artegrafica Silva, 1986. A very nice copy of this limited edition Catalogue Raisonne with several editions. Copy 779/3000 (numbered to colophon at the rear). This copy comes with the signed coloured lithograph "L'angoisse" (#59/185 of the lithograph) Drawn in sanguine, black crayon and lead pencil, this is produced on high quality art paper and is in its own folder. The book is also signed and dedicated to the front end paper to Jacques and Ghislaine Berniere, dated Riyad 1990. Berniere was the French ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1986-1991 (including throughout the Gulf War) and was later the ambassador to Belgium. Vicari's visits to Saudi Arabia are well documented and photographed in the catalogue. In addition there is a French menu card dated the same day (Presumably from the embassy) showing the dinner menu. To the verso, Vicari has drawn a sketch of some of the attendees, and signed this. The book is black cloth, with gilt titles and a colour picture by Vicari tipped onto the front board. In good, clean, sound condition. The book is held within a black clamshell case. There is a little rubbing and marking to the cover, but still attractive. 310 pages. Andrew Vicari was a Welsh portrait painter, who became the official portrait artist of the Saudi Royal Family (where there are three museums dedicated to his work.) He died, aged 83 in 2016. 360 by 270mm (14¼ by 10¾ inches).

Dessinée à la sanguine, au crayon noir et à la mine de plomb, cette lithographie est produite sur du papier d'art de haute qualité et se trouve dans sa propre pochette. Le livre est également signé et dédicacé sur la page de garde à Jacques et Ghislaine Berniere, daté de Riyad 1990. Bernière a été ambassadeur de France en Arabie Saoudite de 1986 à 1991 (y compris pendant la guerre du Golfe) et plus tard ambassadeur en Belgique. Les visites de Vicari en Arabie Saoudite sont bien documentées et photographiées dans le catalogue. Il y a également une carte de menu française datée du même jour (probablement de l'ambassade) montrant le menu du dîner. Au verso, Vicari a dessiné un croquis de certains participants et l'a signé. A little rubbing to the spine and board edges. This copy is embellished with a tipped in signed autograph letter (ALS) on headed note paper. Original edition of this monograph on the new Opera by its archivist. Portrait by Maunoury, photographer (photoglypty by Lemercier) mounted on the frontispiece. 59 engravings and 3 plans (including 1 on double-page). The question of an opera for the city of Paris gave rise to several projects, before its construction was entrusted to Charles Garnier. Front end paper has a small split to the bottom edge. Overall a lovely copy. 255 pages. 260 x 170mm (10¼ x 6¾ inches).

London: Sampson Low, Marston and Co, 1892. First edition. Hardback red cloth with gilt titles and decorations to front board and spine. Unusually, compared to other copies online, this one is appears to be signed in black ink on the frontis photograph by the book's subject (Charles Keene). Not by the author. The signature appears genuine under a loop. Ordinarily we would discount this as a printed signature (as he died in 1891) - but we have seen other copies where the frontis photograph has no signature to it, so wonder if there were some with a genuine inscription. Many b/w illustrations, some full page with tissue guards. Boards are slightly faded, slight lean and sun fading to spine, corners bumped. Inside there is some light foxing, but overall the book is good and scarce with Keene's signature. Two full page bookplates to the inside board and front end paper. Including one for Sir Frederick Lobnitz, shipbuilder and government minister (of munitions) during World War One. Ix, 463 pp.

Hay on Wye: Aquarium / Kestrel Gallery, 2005. Signed limited edition (50 copies) book with hand painted original cover. Published by Aquarium & Kestrel Gallery, Hay-on-Wye. Signed and numbered to back board by Billy Childish, with Hangman gallows and Aquarium sea horse stamps. Book is number 33 of only 50. There is a second signature on a heavy paper (almost like a bookplate) tipped into the inside of the front board. This is also adorned with one of Childish's hangman block cuts (a different one to that on the rear board. There is also a small red stamp that looks Chinese, but is indecipherable.
16 pages on heavy stock. Poetry in red type. 12 full colour plates. Hand bound hardback in hessian boards. Red handmade paper endpapers. Book in very good condition with just a touch of darkening to edge of front board (from handling we suspect). 110 x 90 mm (4¼ x 3½ inches).
