The half title has an attractive gilt and green embossed design with the title 'les chefs d'oeuvre du roman contemporain.' 10 attractive engravings. The leather binding is a little rubbed, but still in sound condition. Some of the engravings are slightly foxed - but overall an attractive copy. Illustrations by Julien le Blant engraved by Toussaint. Le Blant was a pupil of E. Girard and started at the Salon in 1874. He was a Gold Medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1889. Reliure demi-cuir. Cuir couleur moutarde, avec six panneaux. Titres et appareils dorés au dos. Planches marbrées. Feuilles de garde marbrées. Le faux-titre a un joli dessin en relief doré et vert avec le titre « les chefs d'œuvre du roman contemporain ». 10 gravures attrayantes. Illustrations de Julien Le Blant gravées par Toussaint. Le Blant fut l'élève d'E. Girard et débuta au Salon en 1874. Il fut Médaille d'Or à l'Exposition Universelle de 1889.

Held in a black faux leather slipcase. All are in excellent clean and tidy if slightly musty condition. This is the deluxe edition; the book was also published as a hardback. Munich: 1967. Original watercolour on handmade paper - in pen, ink, oil paint. This abstract work is in black, earthy green, orange, grey and blue tones almost resembles a Viking longboat. There are scribbled elements of Informalism. All Mehling's work remained untitled, though the works do state the year of origin, usually the month and often the techniques used. This work was done in February 1967. As Mehling was also a pharmacist in Munich at this time, he enjoyed experimenting with mixing his own paints, pigments and inks. An original by "the German master of the small format" (Haudenschild + Laubscher 1968). In metallic effect wooden frame, under glass, with heavy white mount. Signed in pencil at bottom centre.

Hofheim: 1977. Original watercolour on handmade paper - in pen, ink, and gold dust paint. This abstract work is in earthy green and brown tones, with black backwash. There are calligraphic elements reminiscent of the aesthetics of East Asian characters. This illegible writing conveys the impression of poetry or musical scores. Mehling felt that Arabic or Asian writing becomes an aesthetic experience when one can't read it, so he used this concept often in his works of Informalism. All Mehling's work remained untitled, though the works do state the year of origin, usually the month and often the techniques used. This work was done in January 1977. As Mehling was also a pharmacist in his earlier years, he enjoyed experimenting with mixing his own paints, pigments and inks. Box has imitation ivory clasp. This comprises 15 erotic illustrations (one of which is double-page spread), by Pierre-Laurent Brenot. Total edition limited to 700 copies. This copy is #36, one of 181 on vélin de Papeteries de Lana, with the suite of 4 plates 'refusées' in colour and black, and a suite of all the illustrations in black. Complete. Story attributed to Vietnamese writer Pham Van Ky. All in very good, clean condition. 173 pages, + plates. 265 x 205 mm (10½ x 8 inches).

London: Unpublished, 1960. A hardback bound typescript of a report by Lt-Col Shore, on faults and problems with the architecture of Milton Abbey in Dorset. Bound in blue cloth with gilt titles. The typescript itself is unpaginated, but is 11 pages long. Printed to one side in red and black. Also bound in are 8 large (305 mm x 240 mm) black and white silver gelatin photographs of details of the Abbey architecture, including one with the members of the Abbey team showing some Saxon stone work. There are two further loose photographs, one of which is a little tatty to the edges. The report is signed in fountain pen by the author. There is also a compliments letter loosely enclosed. In good clean condition, with a touch of darkening to the edges only. 355 by 255mm (14 by 10 inches).

Bruxelles: Librairie historique-artistique, 1843. First edition. 4 large in-8 volumes, (270 mm x 170 mm). Midnight blue half-sheepskin binding, embossed percaline covers, spines have gilt titles and decoration.
Illustrated with hand coloured / hand finished engraved plates. These were created by the leading illustrators of the time, including Duverger, L. Markaert, R. King. The bindings are in very good condition, with a little rubbing to the edges only. Inside, the text and plates have light foxing throughout, but are overall in very good condition.
Each copy online offers a different number of plates for each of the four volumes - but our copy seems to match the maximum collation for each variation (so seems complete.) The index is of limited use, as it only lists a proportion of the plates. In addition to the four title vignettes, we have: Europe (1844). 364 pages, 49 plates; Asie (1845). 592 pages, 82 plates; L'Afrique et l'Amérique (1844), 368 pages, 43 plates; l'Océanie (1845) 368 pages 36 plates. Paris: Édition du Mercure de France, 1911. A very nice copy of this limited edition. One of 1000 numbered copies on Velin D'Arches paper. Soft covers are a little darkened, but sound and overall in very good shape. Signed by the artist Rouveyre to the half title page. The original name of the dedication has been cut out, leaving an area of loss to the front end paper. With 8 full page illustrations by Rouveyre. The final pages are beautifully presented in pure Art Nouveau typeset and design with cul-de-lampes and vignettes. A lovely piece of work. Printed entirely from woodcuts by Rouveyre, destroyed after printing. [1-24], XXV-XXXVI pp. Text in French. 280 x 220 mm (11 x 8¾ inches). Très bel exemplaire de cette édition limitée. Un des 1000 exemplaires numérotés sur papier Velin D'Arches. Les couvertures souples sont un peu assombries, mais saines et globalement en très bon état.
