    London: A. Pugin: 1831. A decent copy of this first edition. Original stiff card boards. It is unusual to find this work in its original state. There is a copy of the decorative title page to the front board. The spine is missing (surface of the spine - the binding of the book is still sound). 13 pages of text and 30 full page plates, drawn on stone. A further decorative title page. 30 plates + illustrated title. [i], [plate], 13, [1], 30.

    Condition: Overall a reasonable copy. There is loss of most of the spine to the book. The front and rear boards are still firmly attached. The boards are rather darkened and somewhat rubbed to the edges still sound. Inside, the book is sound throughout. There is light to moderate foxing to many of the plates (As is usual with this work). Two of the plates are printed on a brown paper rather than the cream of the rest of the paper stock. To the front end paper, there is an advertisement for Pugin's architectural works tipped in. Overall a sound copy.

    First Edition. Original buckram boards with leather spine and gilt titles. A touch of rubbing to the boards and the spine edges, but still an attractive copy. Slight fading to the edges of the boards.
    Engraved title, title and a further 21 plates (so 22 plates including title), plus 20 pages of Leed's text. Some foxing /darkening to the plates. [iv], 20, [22] pp. 350 x 265 mm (13¾ x 10½ inches).

Volume II is an explication of the terms of architecture. The collation of the plates is very confusing. Frontis, +, A, B, C, 1-12, 14-43, 43b, 43a, 44-51, 51a, 52-59, 59a, 59b, 60-62, 62A-I, 62K-T, 64a, 64b, 65a-65d, 65bb, 66a, 66b, 67-94, 95-98, 98a, 60-62, 99, 99a-99d, 100-103. Plates conform to index. VII frontis.

    Condition: The boards are a little rubbed and speckled, but still holding well. blank front end paper to the first volume is a touch loose. The rest of the pages and the plates are all in lovely condition.

    London: B.T. Batsford Ltd: 1922. This is Volume IV of The Library of Decorative Art, but is complete in itself. Gift inscription by Harry Batsford (Chairman of B.T. Batsford) to A. E. Doyle, a member of staff at Batsfords. Original burgundy cloth with gilt titles. 269 pages. 360 by 280mm (14¼ by 11 inches).

    Condition: The binding is sound, but slightly loose, with the result that one of the gathers has become detached (but still present). Burgundy boards have a little rubbing and discolouration, mainly to the rear board, but mainly sound. Internally clean throughout. Inscription by Batsford and one other.

One of the 20 examples where the signed lithographs are in two states: on Japon paper and also on Arduenna (this is # 13 of 20). These are loose in gathers, and uncut. With an original signed sketch on glassine. Enclosed in a light blue portfolio, and inside its original slipcase. Unpaginated. 350 x 255 mm (13¾ x 10 inches). Laure Malcles-Masereel was an accomplished illustrator in her own right, previous to becoming Frans Masereel's second wife.

    Condition: Slipcase has some sun fading, and light wear. Spine of the portfolio has sun fading. Internally the lithographs and original artwork are all in a very good condition.

To the half title page is a stamp for a Brussels architect. Some underlining and a couple of small annotations to the text. 64 pages. 125 x 125 mm (5 x 5 inches).

Jesserun de Mesquita. 26 pages. 335 x 335 mm (13¼ x 13¼ inches).

    Condition: Raffia at spine is delicate, and has come out of one hole. Cover is foxed and darkened at edges. Spine has split at tail end but otherwise in a very good condition.

Moderate darkening to the spine and there is splitting, cracking and chipping to the spine. Bookplate of Henry, Thomas Ellacombe (vicar and antiquarian) to the inside board. Small stamp shows that this volume belonged to the Assay office of Birmingham. Opposite the title page, an albumen photograph (circa 1870) of a lady stood by an iron gate has been tipped in. 40 lithograph plates tipped in. 127, [ii] pp. 255 x 195 mm (10 x 7¾ inches).
