In the first section the various collected editions of Swift's works are analysed in great detail. Sections 2 and 3 include bibliographies of A Tale of a Tub and Gulliver's Travels. Both these are useful, as they summarize information which otherwise can only be found in very specialized works. Cloth, small gilt cover device, top edge yellow, large 8vo, xi, 434 pp. 1574 entries. From a contemporary review: The bibliography is divided into six sections. In the first section the various collected editions of Swift's works are analysed in great detail. Sections 2 and 3 include bibliographies of A Tale of a Tub and Gulliver's Travels. In this section there is a large number of definitely false attributions, while there are others which are very doubtful.     Condition: There is a little rubbing to the edges of the boards, but mainly in good sound condition. Darkening to the rear cover from smoke damage. A little smoke damage to the end papers also. Overall a good clean copy.

    A paper label shows that this copy was for Ms. Pavet, and that he was to received a volume bound in half red leather and with papier Agathe. (which indeed, this copy is). The majority of the catalogues were softback, so Monsieur Pavet must have been a valued customer.
    American citizen, the owner of this collection, Mr. Benzon, ran the house of Naylor, Benzon & Cie in London. He died two years before his library went on sale. Many of the books he purchased were from the Henry…

    A paper label shows that this copy was for Ms. Pavet, and that he was to received a volume bound in half red leather and with papier Agathe. (which indeed, this copy is). The majority of the catalogues were softback, so Monsieur Pavet must have been a valued customer.
    American citizen, the owner of this collection, Mr. Benzon, ran the house of Naylor, Benzon & Cie in London. He died two years before his library went on sale. Many of the books he purchased were from the Henry Bordes collection, who wrote catalogue entries for much of this sale (signified by his initials after the entry). The sale comprised 400 items, and against each, is the price achieved (in pencil)
    Red half calf with gilt titles. Brown marbled boards. A little rubbing and dulling to the spine and edges, with a touch of loss to the corners of the boards. Internally in very good condition, with a little darkening and a few scattered marks only.

    Condition: A lovely copy, recently sympathetically rebound. Internally clean and bright, with just a touch of darkening to the edges of the first and last pages.
