A very nice copy of this travelogue. The Dublin edition was published simultaneously to the English Edition. Original binder's note tipped into the rear end paper. Ann Radcliffe was a pioneer of the Gothic novel. Primarily known for the Mysteries of Udolpho and The Italian. vi, 500 pp.

    Condition: The binding is in good condition, with a touch of marking only. Inside, the book is clean and tidy - with just a little foxing. A very nice copy.

    Condition: The binding is holding firmly and is in good condition, with some general wear to surface / extremities from handling, spine darkened and with portion of the old backstrip missing at base, a little chipped at head, corners bumped. Contents are holding firmly in the main, pp. 179-186 detached as one, a few other gatherings a little proud and joints a bit tender, generally in good clean condition if a little toned, with some light scattered foxing, occasional creases or dust marking though nothing too disfiguring. Old ink inscription at head of title page. Original brown endpapers, with bookplates of two different periods to upper pastedown

    Condition: Cloth boards are a little stained and darkened, particularly to the front cover. Still attractive though. Moderate foxing to the first few. The rest the book is in very good condition with only light foxing.

The first is an abstract of "A Northern Summer; Or, Travels round the Baltic, through Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Prussia, and part of Germany in the year 1804" 80, [ii]. pp. Includes index, Sepia aquatint of Cronberg Castle, and a lovely large folding sepia Aquatint of St Petersburg.
    The second work is "A Tour through Holland, along the right and left banks of the Rhine, to the South of Germany in the Summer and Autumn of 1806." 167 [ii]. pp including index. Includes 6 folding sepia aquatint illustrations, or Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam (x2) Utrecht, and Koblenz.
    Each work has a paragraph of introduction, and then an abstract or digest of the work itself. 240 by 150mm (9½ by 6 inches).

    Condition: Recent half calf binding, with hardcover boards. burgundy label to spine. New end papers. The text itself is clean and tidy, in excellent condition.

A hand written spine shows that the album is the result of several trips between 1936 and 1947.

    Condition: An attractive work, the boards are clean, with a little bumping to the corners only. Slight fading to the front bottom edge. Inside, the text pages are quite significantly foxed - but the lithographs are in good, clean original condition. Text notes in Italian (book dealer) to the inside rear board. Overall a very nice copy

    London: Jennings and Chaplin. Both vols. printed in 1831. So vol. 1 is a second edition, and vol. 2 a first edition. Original blue green buckram with simple gilt titles to spine. Each volume has an engraved title page with vignette. Vol. 1 has 100 engraved views on 50 plates (good quality art paper). Vol. 2. has 102 views on 51 plates. Opposite each is a text sheet with text in English. To the verso of this is the same description in French. The edges of each plate have the original small stab marks to them. Augustus Charles Pugin (1762–1832) was an Anglo-French artist, architectural draughtsman, and writer on medieval architecture. He was the father of Augustus Welby Pugin, the celebrated Catholic architect.

    Condition: Boards are in excellent condition, with just a touch of bumping. Internally clean and tidy throughout with just a little foxing to some pages. There is a weakening to the front hinge of volume 1. Now reinforced with archival tape.
