New York: Morris Gest, 1925. Programme / booklet about the Moscow Art Theatre. The 34 page pamphlet is a collection of essays and articles about the Studio. This was the first Appearance Outside Russia of the Famous Lyric Branch of the World's Foremost Stage. The front cover is chipped to the edges, and is split to the rear - so is partly detached. The central leaf has come away from the binding, but present. Still holding together although delicate. Contents include the story of the theatre, a profile of Vladimir Nemirovitch-Dantchenko, a synopses of the repertory, a double page illustration of Lysistrata. An article by Yury Sakhnovsky on Lyric Drama, the synthetic theatre. Another article entitled: Back to Merimee for Bizet's true Carmen. Also, a piece on Rachmaninoff's Aleko, and a who's who in the Musical Theatre. Illustrations by Andrei Hudiakoff. 305 x 230 mm (12 x 9 inches).

Complete as issued with nine hand coloured plates of dressing table paraphernalia; with moveable flaps each revealing a supposed female virtue. Bound in the original printed paper coloured buff boards, with original end papers. In very good plus condition overall; some foxing. Collates thus: Frontis engraving (by R. L Wright), showing a dressing table, title page, dedication leaf, [iv dedication signed S. G.] pp24 printed on rectos, with nine plates. Taschen, 1998. Beautiful copy of this signed limited edition. 1981/2500 printed. Signed by Christo, Jean-Cleaude and Wolfgang Votz. This also includes swatches of the fabric of both the blue and yellow umbrellas. Text in English and Japanese. Slipcase has photographs of blue umbrellas to one side, and yellow to the other. A touch of rubbing only to the slipcase. Two volumes bound in a creamy cloth. Fractional rubbing only. Internally clean and tidy throughout. thousands of black and white and colour photographic illustrations, maps, charts and sketches - some folding plates. Large heavy set (10kg). 300 by 275mm (11¾ by 10¾ inches).

Hay on Wye: Aquarium / Kestrel Gallery, 2005. Signed limited edition (50 copies) book with hand painted original cover. Published by Aquarium & Kestrel Gallery, Hay-on-Wye. Signed and numbered to back board by Billy Childish, with Hangman gallows and Aquarium sea horse stamps. Book is number 33 of only 50. There is a second signature on a heavy paper (almost like a bookplate) tipped into the inside of the front board. This is also adorned with one of Childish's hangman block cuts (a different one to that on the rear board. There is also a small red stamp that looks Chinese, but is indecipherable.
16 pages on heavy stock. Poetry in red type. 12 full colour plates. Hand bound hardback in hessian boards. Red handmade paper endpapers. Book in very good condition with just a touch of darkening to edge of front board (from handling we suspect). 110 x 90 mm (4¼ x 3½ inches).

Includes portrait frontispiece in the 162 plates, with explanatory paper guards. No dust jacket. Boards are rubbed at edges and slightly soiled. Inside clean and tidy, with some light foxing throughout. Binding is sound with no shaking or loose plates. Overall in good condition. 290 x 230 mm (11½ x 9 inches) Première édition, deuxième édition reliée en toile bleue, avec le titre et la décoration en noir. Frankfurt: A.M. Mallet, 1719. A pair of copper engravings of the heavens. The first shows Three globes are floating in the sky, an active seaside scene across the bottom including boats, an old coastal village scene, etc. The globes show the Anteciens, the Perieciens and the Antipodes. These are two small to have been of use to a navigator, and were purely decorative. This is numbered plate 49 to the corner. The second, labeled plate 71 shows a pastoral scene, above which there is a disc showing the sun and the astrological symbols.
These were issued by A.M. Mallet in 1719, although these would appear to be slightly earlier impressions (without German text overlaid). Both of the engraved plates are held under a mounting boards, with gilt edged window. Unglazed. Size of the engraving is 150 x 105 mm (6 x 4¼ inches). The size of the mount is 280 x 225 mm (11 x 8¾ inches).

Two small, but charming, engravings of a Pangolin, or scaly anteater. One viewed from the rear (or above), and one curled in to a ball. Both on the same sheet of thick high quality cream paper. Deep impressions on each. They appear hand pressed. Perfect for framing. Image sizes: 60 x 100 mm and 60 x 40 mm respectively. Total sheet size: 275 x 145 mm (10¾ x 5¾ inches). Pangolins are mammals with large, protective keratin scales covering their skin. Nocturnal in nature, their diet consists of mainly ants and termites, which they capture using their very long tongues. Sadly, these delightful creatures are heavily under threat from poaching, and are the most trafficked mammals in the world. René Groebli is a Swiss post-war photographer who worked as reporter for 'Life', 'Picture Post' and other international magazines. He owned a studio for industrial and advertising photography, and in 1957 the American Color Annual named him 'Master of Color'.

1865. Fabulous decorative gilt and black ruled red cloth album. Comprising 40 leaves with around 600 intricate cut-outs of commemorative cards and images. Many of these are from early Christmas cards and winter themes - mostly English text. Includes some fabulous flowers, birds, butterflies, traditional dress / costumes and caricatures - mostly French text. All beautifully cut out, then thoughtfully and carefully assembled. One or two are dated. Including an advertising postcard (possibly once perfumed) for Rimmel, dated 1865. Therefore, we assume it was created during the period 1860 - 1875. Boards are bumped on corners but otherwise the gilt clean and bright. Endpapers are toned / lightly foxed. Each leaf has a blank verso, but the cuts have transferred their shapes onto the verso preceding. 300 x 250 mm (11¾ x 9¾ inches). Fabuleux album décoratif en toile rouge lignée dorée et noire. A couple of youths are talking to another soldier in the background. In the time honoured way of bored soldiers, they complain about their lot. Water colour to paper. A touch of staining to the corner of the paper, and a little darkening to the page, otherwise in excellent, original condition. 220 x 280 mm

These fabulous illustrations, were created by Lesueur and Alaux between 1826 and 1828. Lithography by Godefroy Engelmann. They were originally gathered in a portfolio of 14 plates (according to FirstSearch - some sources state 15 but may be including a title). They seem to have been issued uncoloured, and we have seen no original plates offered with hand colouring. Each plate was presented with an engraved view of a roman antiquity or scene, and then several lines of small text in French below. (There was a 20th Century uncoloured reproduction but this is without the text). Here we offer five of the plates. Each has the contemporary hand colouring, and is framed and glazed with passe partout and a more recent simple gilt frame. Here the views have a visible area of 47cm x 31cm, beneath a passe partout of 49cm x 59cm, and held within a frame of 53cm x 62cm. The passe partout has a very slight wave to each plate, otherwise they are in fine condition. The five views are: Colonne élevée á L'Empereur Phocas (1826), good clean condition; Temple de Mars-Vengeur (1826) very good clean condition, with a few very light foxing spots to the text area; Vue du Capitole (1827) in excellent clean condition; Vue du Portique d'Octavie (No date), good clean condition; and Vue du Forum Trajan (1828) In excellent condition. This is the only picture which is horizontal rather than vertical. Godefroy Engelmann (1788-1839): Lithographer printer, painter, designer and inventor. From Mulhouse, he was a prolific publisher; Jean-Paul Alaux (1788-1858) from Bordeaux, was a lithographer and painter who specialised in landscape and antique views; Jean-Baptiste-Cicéron Lesueur (1794-1883) was primarily a French architect, but spent some time studying the ancient architecture of Rome and collaborated with Alaux on this project.
