This copy seems to have been a gift to a Madame Tiraysse (?) who organised a conference. Decorated with an ornamental initial, a vignette to the upper wrapper, and seven full-page colour plates by Willy Landelle. The second work in the "éditions Les Contes de bronze et d'argent" series. A beautiful copy, clean and tidy with just a touch of edgewear. Now protected under glassine. Beautiful colour illustrations. 38 pages. 24.5cm x 16cm. This seems to be one of 1325 copies on Vélin superior. (Although not numbered). The tale is set in China, and the illustrations are in the Chinese style. A lovely children's book.

The woodcut illustrations depict virtuous children, heroic soldiers, and idealised provinces. Publisher's red percaline binding, with gilt and black decoration and titles. Nancy: Revue lorraine illustrée, 1912. A lovely copy of this limited edition / first edition. This is the deluxe edition of the review of the Épinal images. Limited to only 300 copies, this is #171. The original cloth covered stiff card boards are in very good condition. There is a little darkening to the boards, but little other marking. Blue cloth spine, with no titles. A touch of edgewear only. The cloth ties are lacking. Internally, the contents are loose in sheets. In excellent condition, with factional marking only. This scarce edition included 207 engravings within the text (149 of which are printed in colour). There are also 44 full page plates outside the text. Printed on high quality Arches paper, these include 29 double sheets and three quadruple sheets. Most of the plates were printed from the original wood blocks, but a few were re-engraved by the Établissement Les Arts Graphiques Modernes in Nancy. The hand colouring for the plates was done by A. Collovald of Nancy. Our copy is complete, which is most unusual, and includes the Napoleon plate - which is often missing from available copies. 180 pages. 34cm x 26cm. Also included is an attractive loose advertisement for a collection of Napoléonic imagery, which was in preparation. This is printed in a lovely coloured foil.

Very rare and comprehensive study on the Epinal print production which is hardly ever on the market. The 1920 edition is most often found, but this 1912 edition was printed in 300 numbered copies only. Epinal prints prints on popular subjects were rendered in bright sharp colours, and sold in France in the 19th Century. They owe their name to the fact that the first publisher of such images - Jean-Charles Pellerin - having been born in Epinal, named the printing house he founded in 1796, Imagerie d'Epinal. Rene Perrout (1868-1920), was a Lorraine writer and passionate about folk art.

A patriotic work aimed at children in the middle of the first world war, extolling the heroic history of France. 106 pages. 31cm x 24cm.

Racine Wisconsin: Whitman Publishing Company, 1942. First edition. A children's book intended to push out cardboard figures and create a farm house and characters. Overall in excellent condition. The cardboard is without marks or damage. The push out elements are all in place. No marking. 8 sheets (including the covers) on stiff card. The only issue is that the staples have weakened and the central double page is detached but present. All printed to one side only. On completing the project, there would no book left, as even the covers are push out elements. 37.5cm x 27.5cm. A scarce item.

Sadly, our copy no longer has the suite of black and white illustrations. Inspired by the Épinal chapbook style publications of the nineteenth century, this lovely book was assembled using stencil coloured blocks. This leads to a vibrancy of colour that gives the appearance of hand colouring. The hardback boards are slightly darkened, but substantially sound, with a sound red cloth spine. There is a slight area of bleeding to the colour in the top right of the boards. Internally clean and bright throughout. 45 pages. 390 x 290 mm (15¼ x 11½ inches). Première édition. Édition cartonnée limitée de ce magnifique ouvrage pour enfants. Un des 150 exemplaires sur papier Van Gelder Hollande. Malheureusement, notre exemplaire n'a plus la suite d'illustrations en noir et blanc. Inspiré par les publications d'Épinal du XIXe siècle, ce joli livre a été assemblé à l'aide de blocs colorés au pochoir.
