Rare publication of theater decorations by the Dutch artist François-Joseph PfeifferJr. (Liège 1778-1835). Illustrated with 9 lithograph plates (including portrait) with facing tissue guards. With accompanying letter-press text within red ornamental borders. Contains a biography by Gerit van Ernst Koning (1794-1853), and verse descriptions by J. van Lennep (1802-1868). It also includes a short list of theater scenes created by Pfeiffer.

Covers have a little sun fading / toning, and the very tip of the two bottom corners has been lost. Otherwise the book is in a very good condition, both inside and out. 132 [2] pages. 235 x 160 mm (9¼ x 6¼ inches). Première édition. Couvertures souples originales, avec une belle décoration, et des illustrations de vignettes à l'intérieur par Theo Van Rysselberghe. Texte en Francais. Les couvertures ont un peu de décoloration / virage au soleil, et la pointe même des deux coins inférieurs a été perdue. Dark green slipcase containing a dark green folder, both in beautiful condition. Inside is a pale green soft cover, and the work, in French folds (loose as designed). No marks or damage. This copy is 10/88. The paper is verge, a la forme, du Moulin de Fleurec. The publisher specialises in high quality and beautifully typeset books, using specially designed typefaces, and "without the need for pictures or adornment." 74, [vi] pp. 250 by 160mm (9¾ by 6¼ inches). Although the title states 1928, the colophon dates this to March 1931 and says that the date of 1928 was the Oxford University publication. Barcham Green & Co paper. Top edge gilt - remaining edges rough cut. The dust wrapper is clean, with a little darkening to the spine. A couple of spots, and a tear to the front fold. loss of about 1 inch to the base of the wrapper. Now covered in archival acetate. The boards are clean and tidy, with a touch of darkening to the base of the spine (where the wrapper is missing) only. Overall an excellent copy.
XXXI pp (introduction)-338 pp. 270 x 185 mm (10¾ x 7¼ inches). Edition limitée 18/99 - édition originale française, sous emballage anti-poussière. Bien que le titre indique 1928, le colophon date de mars 1931 et indique que la date de 1928 était la publication de l'Université d'Oxford. Papier Barcham Green & Co. Bord supérieur doré - bords restants coupés grossièrement. L'emballage de la poussière est propre, avec un peu d'assombrissement à la colonne vertébrale. Quelques taches et une déchirure sur le pli avant. perte d'environ 1 pouce à la base de l'emballage. Maintenant recouvert d'acétate d'archives. Les planches sont propres et bien rangées, avec une touche de noircissement à la base du dos (là où la couverture est manquante) seulement. Dans l'ensemble un excellent exemplaire.
