London: Livermore and Robinson, 1876. A new revised edition of Croker's speeches on the inefficiency of actors on the Dublin stage. This edition is edited with notes and remarks by Walter Donaldson. To the front end paper is a lengthy gift inscription from Donaldson to Henry Poate Aslatt. He writes "Dublin is much advanced in buildings, but where are her land owner's now? Alas scattered in every country but their own". There is a second inscription from Henry Poate Aslatt (who also appears on the subscriber list) stating that the book was by his old Masonic friend, Donaldson. Green cloth with gilt titles. In slightly handled but overall very good condition. Internally clean and tidy throughout. Frontis portrait of the actress "Miss O'Neill." Henry Poate Aslatt was a prominent figure in Southampton, England, during the 19th century. He was the youngest son of John Aslatt, who founded Aslatt's Coach Factory in the early 19th century. Henry continued the family business into the 1890s, managing the coach works located on the corner of Above Bar and Aslatt's Cut in Southampton. Walter Alexander Donaldson, (1793-1877) also wrote "Recollections of an Actor" in 1865. 59 pages. 18.5cm x 12cm.

London: The Ballantyne Press / Hacon & Ricketts / John Lane, 1901. First edition. A lovely copy of this pseudonymous work. One of 290 copies (Edition limited to 290 unnumbered copies, including 10 on vellum, we offer one of the 280 on Arnold's handmade paper). Green buckram spine, with paper covered boards. The paper shows leaves blowing in the wind. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The paper label is a little rubbed and darkened, but still legible. Externally very good overall. Inside, the book is an immaculate copy, with fractional foxing to the initial pages, and a touch of darkening to the front and rear end papers, otherwise spotless. Opening with a nice ornamented border in black figuring on top Janus, on left the medal of Comodus, and the Amazon and her moon-shaped shield, and below the Nemean lion's skin and Herakles' mace. Illustrations (including the paper boards) are by Charles Ricketts. Michael Field was a pseudonym used for the poetry and verse drama of the English authors Katherine Harris Bradley and her niece and ward Edith Emma Cooper. Although they had intended to remain anonymous, their identity became well known. Although published second, this work is intended as the first in the "Roman Trilogy" which recounts the downfall of Commodus. Ref. 1950. Vintage Disney Danish paper theatre / cut-out novelty, mid-20th century, complete with all components. A scarce and highly collectible children's paper theatre set based on Disney's Pinocchio, issued in Denmark and designed to be assembled into a miniature stage with characters, scenery, and props. Complete example in original box, the box has been repaired with tape. This is a delightful survivor of mid-century Disneyana and toy-theatre publishing, appealing both for its interactive format and its strong display value. Complete sets are considerably harder to find than loose or incomplete examples, and the original box adds to the appeal despite the repair. Box measures: 270 by 335mm (10¾ by 13¼ inches).

Il s'agit d'un charmant vestige de l'édition Disneyana et des théâtres de jouets du milieu du siècle, qui séduit tant par son format interactif que par sa grande valeur d'exposition. Les ensembles complets sont considérablement plus difficiles à trouver que les exemplaires épars ou incomplets, et la boîte d'origine ajoute à l'attrait de l'objet malgré la réparation. Peking: No Publisher, 1988. First edition / Original art work from 戊辰年五月 or the fifth month of the Wùchén year. ie. May / June 1988. Very much in the style of Guan Liang (关良, 1900–1986) and his followers. The painting depicts two performers in Beijing Opera (京剧) costume. The female figure is a wudan (武旦) (A martial female role). In blue silk costume with an elaborate head dress, white and red stage makeup, and holding a weapon. The male figure is a laosheng (老生) or official/scholar type. An attractive original work, signed and dated. There is slight damage to the woman's sword arm, with the blue paint blurred. There are also three spots of ink / paint near to the seal. The painting is on what appears to be Chinese xuan paper (宣纸), mounted onto a grey card backing. Painting is 25cm x 25cm. The backing card is 34/5cm x 34.5cm. Blank to verso.

La peinture représente deux artistes vêtus de costumes d'opéra de Pékin (京剧). Le personnage féminin est une wudan (武旦) (un rôle féminin martial). Elle porte un costume de soie bleue avec une coiffe élaborée, un maquillage de scène blanc et rouge, et tient une arme. Le personnage masculin est un laosheng (老生), c'est-à-dire un personnage de type fonctionnaire/érudit. Une œuvre originale attrayante, signée et datée. Le bras de la femme qui tient l'épée présente un léger dommage, la peinture bleue étant estompée. Il y a également trois taches d'encre ou de peinture près du sceau. La peinture est réalisée sur ce qui semble être du papier xuan chinois (宣纸), monté sur un support en carton gris. La peinture mesure 25 cm x 25 cm. Le support en carton mesure 34,5 cm x 34,5 cm.
