Through the use of 16 illustrations (13 hand coloured) the author shows how the illusion of seeing a ghost can be created. The "List of Plates" identifies what colour illusion a plate will create. "Plate II. this black figure will give a white spectre." etc. Blue boards with text (in ten different fonts !!) and a spectral figure looking particularly Scrooge Like floating across the front board. The rear board has adverts for Griffith and Farran books recently published. Red cloth spine. A touch of darkening and some rubbing (with two areas of loss to the rear panel). A couple of creases and edgewear to the boards. Title page has a small closed tear (repaired with archival tape). The rest of the book is clean, with a little handling to the pages. The information and tables show the concerns of the Commune in Paris - how much the monarchy costs England, the number of prisoners etc. Text is entirely in French.

Contemporary binding. half tan leather with gilt decoration and titles. Unusually the leather is bound over white boards. Probably an amateur binding. To the inside front board there is evidence of a bookplate having been neatly cut out. Text block is clean and tidy throughout, with a couple of minor foxing spots. Some neat contemporary marginalia - seemingly references to other works. The author was the German zoologist Jacob Theodor Klein (1685-1759), who invented the word herpetology, which was used for the first time in this work. (Although the term has widened since Klein's definition). [ii], 72 pp. 260 by 200mm (10¼ by 7¾ inches).

London: P. S. King, 1933. First Edition. Signed by the author, with a gift inscription to the Freud Bibliophile Robert Masson (His bookplate reads Nossam). Original blue cloth with gilt titles to the front board and spine. The titles to the front board are almost rubbed away. A little bumping otherwise. Bookplate to inside the front board. Gift inscription opposite. The book is in good condition throughout with a little darkening to the pages. Tipped into the rear of the book, are a review of the title by the Manchester Guardian, and the original dust wrapper of the book. This work was an attempt by the Danish economist, to counter the inflation and depression of the previous few years which had come about from an abandoning of the Gold Standard. He suggested that money supply be connected to an index of measurements of market requirements (index linking). 112 pages. 220 x 150 mm.

Cet ouvrage est une tentative de l'économiste danois pour contrer l'inflation et la dépression des années précédentes, dues à l'abandon de l'étalon-or. London: Longman, Brown, Green & Longmans, 1848. A lovely copy of this first edition. An interesting English guide dedicated to horse owners, illustrated with a beautiful steel engraving (first printing). based on a work by the author Harry Hieover pseudonym of Charles Bindley (1795/6–1859). Half tan morocco, smooth spine decorated with blind stamped design, gilded title, green percaline boards, the first decorated with a gilt decoration. The boards and spine are in good, clean condition. A touch of rubbing only. Internally the book is in very nice condition. Some light foxing otherwise very good copy. Bookplate of Alfred André, a great bibliophile, from a Nimes Protestant family who made their money in the silk trade, then in banking. He became regent of the Bank of France in 1871. xvi, 216, 32 pages. 32 page edverts fro new works by Longman to rear. 180 by 110mm (7 by 4¼ inches). he author Charles Bindley (1795/6–1859) was a British sports writer specializing in horses and outdoor sports, particularly hunting and stable management.

A second edition of the "Voiage du Monde de Descartes" bound in with a First Thus (Amsterdam) copy of the "Suite du voyage du Monde". Unfortunately the First volume lacks the double plate of the Moon. It contains the 18 woodcuts showing celestial systems. The second volume contains 12 woodcuts. Original full leather binding with gilt details to the spine. (Somewhat faded to the spine). The binding is cracking to the hinges with some nicking, but is still holding together. Internally the books are clean and tidy with a little darkening and a couple of isolated foxing spots only. A couple of contemporary inked notes to the inside board. [xiv], 308., [viii], 248. pp. 160 x 100 mm (6¼ x 4 inches). The first volume is scarce in early editions. At the time of writing this description, there are no copies of the "Suite du voyage" available.

These works were the written by the Jesuit Priest, Father Gabriel Daniel (1649-1728), known for his activity as a historiographer and for his History of France. It relates Imaginary journey around the Cartesian universe, composed in the form of satire in the company of Father Mersenne, the author mainly fights the system of vortices. The debate on the question of the Void and Celestial Mechanics was one of the most important of the second half of the 17th century, and all the scientists and metaphysicians of the time brought their point of view to it. Daniel was opposed to Cartesian philosophy, and these treatise are mainly aimed at attacking his Treatise on Light (Published in 1664).

Au moment de la rédaction de cette description, il n'y a pas d'exemplaires de la « Suite du voyage » disponibles.

Il relate Voyage imaginaire autour de l'univers cartésien, composé sous forme de satire en compagnie du Père Mersenne, l'auteur combat principalement le système des tourbillons. Le débat sur la question du Vide et de la Mécanique Céleste fut l'un des plus importants de la seconde moitié du XVIIe siècle, et tous les scientifiques et métaphysiciens de l'époque y apportèrent leur point de vue. Daniel était opposé à la philosophie cartésienne, et ces traités visent principalement à attaquer son Traité de la lumière (publié en 1664).
