    Soissons: S.P, 1900. A beautiful manuscript album amicorum. Expensively bound in black leather, with dark blue and gilt monogrammed end papers. The outside is discreet and simple, but there is gilt decoration and dentelles to the inside boards. No titles. Possibly an "off the shelf" blank book purchased for the purpose. Then there is a beautiful watercolour of two windmills by the water's edge. This appears to be a Dutch landscape, from the Delft blue colour palette and the costume of the figure to the foreground. The work is signed Marie Laurent. Soissons, 26/1/1900. The rest of the work is 68 pages of neat text, with poems, comments and prose inspirational passages, mainly from famous French authors, and all written in French. Although most of this is in a variety of hands, the last tale, which is 24 pages long, is entitled "les trois messes basses" (A Christmas short story by Alphonse Daudet) and is in a neat hand by one writer. There are finally perhaps 150 blank pages. A beautifully presented book. Soissons is a commune in the northern French department of Aisne. 18.5cm x 13cm.

    . Un magnifique album amicorum manuscrit. Reliure coûteuse en cuir noir, avec des pages de garde bleu foncé et monogrammées à l'or. L'extérieur est discret et simple, mais l'intérieur des couvertures est orné de décorations dorées et de dentelles. Pas de titre. Il s'agit probablement d'un livre vierge acheté dans le commerce à cette fin. On y trouve ensuite une magnifique aquarelle représentant deux moulins à vent au bord de l'eau. Il semble s'agir d'un paysage hollandais, à en juger par la palette de couleurs bleu de Delft et le costume du personnage au premier plan. L'œuvre est signée Marie Laurent. Soissons, 26/1/1900. Le reste de l'ouvrage comprend 68 pages de texte soigné, avec des poèmes, des commentaires et des passages inspirants en prose, principalement d'auteurs français célèbres, tous écrits en français. Bien que la plupart de ces textes aient été écrits par différentes personnes, le dernier récit, long de 24 pages, intitulé « Les trois messes basses » (une nouvelle de Noël d'Alphonse Daudet), est rédigé d'une écriture soignée par un seul auteur. Il y a enfin environ 150 pages blanches. Un livre magnifiquement présenté. Soissons est une commune du département de l'Aisne, dans le nord de la France. 18,5 cm x 13 cm.

Ils sont tous d'excellente qualité et sont accompagnés d'un papier de soie détaché. Vient ensuite une aquarelle de Marie Kerrsen représentant une coupe de fruits. Après une page blanche, le reste de l'album est une collection d'images, dont 8 lithographies teintées, 9 lithographies coloriées à la main, 19 autres lithographies colorées et deux gravures non colorées. There is some rubbing to the paper surface to the right edge, where it looks as if this painting has been framed at some point. Not affecting image. Overall a beautiful example of a scarce work. We can find none of this work available to purchase at the time of cataloguing, and there are no auction records for the 26 with the original illustration.     Elisabeth Ivanovsky (born Élisavieta Andréïevna Ivanovskaia) 1910, in Kichinev, then part of the Russian Empire (now Chișinău, Moldova). - 2006, Brussels, Belgium. Ivanovsky became a Belgian national and is renowned as a painter and illustrator, particularly in the field of children's literature. Her artistic style was shaped by constructivism and Russian avant-garde movements and her influence is seen in the continued popularity of direct colour illustration and the resurgence of minimalist approaches in contemporary children's books.

    . Très bel exemplaire de cette première édition limitée à 26 exemplaires, enrichie d'une illustration aquarelle originale signée d'Ivanovsky. Le tirage complet a été de 330 exemplaires, dont 300 sur vélin pur fil, et seulement 26 sur papier madagascar, avec l'illustration originale. Boîte d'origine en carton rigide crème. Il est un peu assombri et présente quelques marques, mais il est encore en bon état et a bien protégé l'ouvrage qu'il contient. Couvertures crème souple avec titres illustrés sur la couverture avant. Imprimé en noir et rouge. À l'intérieur se trouve un livret d'introduction de Paul Fierens, qui reprend le titre de la couverture. La justification porte le numéro écrit à la main. Viennent ensuite les 26 pages, avec les lettres de A à Z, chacune illustrée par une femme coloriée à la main, et un vers sous chacune d'elles. Au dos, dans une pliure, se trouve l'illustration originale. Dans ce cas, pour la lettre C, "Carabosse". L'ouvrage est signé au crayon par Ivanovsky. Il y a quelques frottements à la surface du papier sur le bord droit, où il semble que cette peinture ait été encadrée à un moment donné. Cela n'affecte pas l'image. Dans l'ensemble, il s'agit d'un bel exemple d'une œuvre rare. Nous n'avons trouvé aucun exemplaire de cette œuvre disponible à l'achat au moment de l'établissement du catalogue, et il n'y a aucun enregistrement de vente aux enchères pour le 26 avec l'illustration originale.     1985. A Dutch oil painting of a landscape scene - a water mill by a canal with trees and sky. Probably an amateur artist, it is signed P.M. '85. Assumed 1985. Oil on canvas, and mounted in a wooden and gilt frame. Sold with the frame. Frame size 500 mm width x 420 mm height. Image size 285 mm x 230 mm. The painting is in very good condition, with just a touch of crackle to the glaze. The frame is mainly in good condition, but with a little rubbing to the lower edge.

The cars, each with a driver and a passenger, are neck and neck, with dust behind them. The certainly appear early cars, with crank handles and solid tyres. They are numbered Two and Four to the radiators. The sheet is clean, but there is edge wear to two sides with loss, this has cut into the black frame, but not the sketch itself. Une jolie esquisse d'une course automobile, avec deux voitures qui s'affrontent. Esquisse à l'encre, bordée d'encre noire. Daté de 1907. Les voitures, chacune avec un conducteur et un passager, sont au coude à coude, avec de la poussière derrière elles. Il s'agit certainement de voitures anciennes, avec des manivelles et des pneus pleins. Les radiateurs sont numérotés deux et quatre. La feuille est propre, mais il y a une usure des bords sur deux côtés avec une perte, ce qui a coupé le cadre noir, mais pas le croquis lui-même. Une déchirure fermée apparaît sur le côté gauche, mais elle pourrait être réparée. Le dessin mesure 21,5 cm x 30,5 cm sur une feuille de 24,5 cm x 34 cm. Verso vierge. Trous d'épingle dans les coins.

In 1923, he was made an officer of the Legion of Honour. He died in 1934.

The book is also signed and dedicated to the front end paper to Jacques and Ghislaine Berniere, dated Riyad 1990. Berniere was the French ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1986-1991 (including throughout the Gulf War) and was later the ambassador to Belgium.     Parme: Editions Artegrafica Silva, 1986. A very nice copy of this limited edition Catalogue Raisonne with several editions. Copy 779/3000 (numbered to colophon at the rear). This copy comes with the signed coloured lithograph "L'angoisse" (#59/185 of the lithograph) Drawn in sanguine, black crayon and lead pencil, this is produced on high quality art paper and is in its own folder. The book is also signed and dedicated to the front end paper to Jacques and Ghislaine Berniere, dated Riyad 1990. Berniere was the French ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1986-1991 (including throughout the Gulf War) and was later the ambassador to Belgium. Vicari's visits to Saudi Arabia are well documented and photographed in the catalogue. In addition there is a French menu card dated the same day (Presumably from the embassy) showing the dinner menu. To the verso, Vicari has drawn a sketch of some of the attendees, and signed this. The book is black cloth, with gilt titles and a colour picture by Vicari tipped onto the front board. In good, clean, sound condition. The book is held within a black clamshell case. There is a little rubbing and marking to the cover, but still attractive. 310 pages. Andrew Vicari was a Welsh portrait painter, who became the official portrait artist of the Saudi Royal Family (where there are three museums dedicated to his work.) He died, aged 83 in 2016. 360 by 270mm (14¼ by 10¾ inches).

In the background to the right is a soldier, with an angel standing by him, hand on his shoulder (presumably he is a fallen son of France). The angel also holds his other hand above Foch, pointing at him. To the left, is a triumphal arch, with the sun setting bellow it. General Foch was promoted to Marechal in August 1918, and it is likely that this is what is celebrated here. The paper is slightly darkened, and there is a crease to the centre. A simple celebration of victory by a significant French artist. The frame is an ornate gilt frame, with glass. In very good condition, with a few bumps / nicks to the the frame only. Overall in very good condition. Sketch is 20cm x 29cm, Frame is 26cm x 35cm.

    Henri Victor Lesur (1863-1937), was a French artist born in Roubaix. Lesur trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and was a pupil of François Flameng. He was active in the French art scene, particularly towards the end of the 19th century, and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1887 to 1895. Lesur's work is characterized by elegant genre scenes and portraits, often inspired by the style of 18th-century French artists such as Watteau, Boucher, and Fragonard. Lesur's paintings often depicted scenes reminiscent of bygone luxury and playful Parisian society, created as a form of escapism for viewers and collectors. He continued to produce art until his death in 1937. Lesur's work is sometime signed as V. H. Lesur.

À l'arrière-plan, à droite, se trouve un soldat, près duquel se tient un ange, la main sur l'épaule (il s'agit vraisemblablement d'un fils de la France tombé au champ d'honneur). L'ange tient également son autre main au-dessus de Foch, le désignant du doigt. À gauche, un arc de triomphe sous lequel se couche le soleil. Le général Foch a été promu maréchal en août 1918, et il est probable que c'est cette promotion qui est célébrée ici. Le papier est légèrement assombri et il y a un pli au centre. Une simple célébration de la victoire par un artiste français important. Le cadre est un cadre doré orné, avec une vitre. En très bon état, avec quelques bosses / entailles sur le cadre uniquement. L'ensemble est en très bon état. L'esquisse mesure 20 cm x 29 cm, le cadre 26 cm x 35 cm.

    Henri Victor Lesur (1863-1937) est un artiste français né à Roubaix. Lesur a été formé à l'École des Beaux-Arts et a été l'élève de François Flameng. Il est actif sur la scène artistique française, en particulier vers la fin du XIXe siècle, et expose régulièrement au Salon de Paris de 1887 à 1895.
