Antipodes: 1900. - Two albumen prints - mounted on the recto and verso of an oblong of grey card. One side showing The Gap and South Head at Watsons Bay in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia (circa 1903); and on the other side a view of the town of Hobart, Tasmania (from Lansdowne Crescent) taken by John Watt Beattie.
- Two collodion paper prints showing the harbour of Lyttelton, New Zealand by an unknown photographer, and a landscape view across the Bealey near Christchurch, New Zealand taken by E. Wheeler & Son - these also mounted on the recto and verso of an oblong of grey card.
- One unmounted collodion paper print is of the Waimangu Geyser, which is located near Rotorua, New Zealand. This says JM2070 on the front - and possibly refers to the James Ingram McDonald (the painter, photographer, filmmaker, museum director, cultural ambassador, film censor, and promoter of Maori arts and crafts) and may have been taken whilst he was employed by the New Zealand Government Tourist Department in the early 20th Century. The geyser was known to erupt on a cycle of around 36 hours and would reach heights of up to 450 metres. Written on the verso of the photograph it reads: "The column of steam is about 1200 feet high". This geyser stopped erupting in 1904.

Paris: Jean Paul Caboche, 1991. A lovely black and white photograph of a fashion shoot for Guy Laroche Haute-Couture. Original photograph held under passe partout. Model (anonymous) in a gabardine jacket and felt hat. To the verso, the credits show that this is from the Guy Laroche Autumn / Winter collection. Photograph in as new condition, held under stiff passe partout with thin card backing board. Photograph is in practically as new condition. Passe partout is clean and neat, with a touch of edge tape only. Photograph dimensions 29.5cm x 21cm. Passe partout is 45cm x 36cm. It is perhaps symptomatic of the fashion industry that although the hair stylist and make up artist are both credited, the model herself is not names. Laroche (1921-1989) was one of the first designers to introduce separates (ie. jacket and trousers). His company continues today.

Photographie en état neuf, maintenue sous un passe partout rigide avec un support cartonné fin. La photographie est pratiquement à l'état neuf. Le passe-partout est propre et net, avec seulement un peu de ruban adhésif sur les bords. Les dimensions de la photographie sont de 29,5 cm x 21 cm. Le passe-partout mesure 45 cm x 36 cm. Il est peut-être symptomatique de l'industrie de la mode que, bien que le coiffeur et le maquilleur soient tous deux mentionnés, le mannequin lui-même n'est pas nommé. Laroche (1921-1989) a été l'un des premiers créateurs à introduire des vêtements séparés (c'est-à-dire une veste et un pantalon). Sa société existe encore aujourd'hui.

There is a loosely inserted French translation for each photo caption. This book was the result of the purchase of the newspaper archives of the city of Luton, England. A vast source of material, from which Timothy Prus selected a series of images to create a surrealist story line. Prus had been interested in amateur photography / found images long before this became accepted in most of contemporary art. The book is in a near fine condition, and appears almost unread. 112 pages. 185 x 130 mm (7¼ x 5 inches).

Paris: Peeters Portraits, 1955. Three large silver gelatin photographs (23.5cm x 17.5cm) each signed in white ink by the photographer Harcourt. These are mounted under passe partout and tipped onto the front of folding card. The three images are of a young girl's First Holy Communion, and she is pictured in suitably angelic poses! The three are held in a photography company's cream card folder embossed with "Peeters Portraits Paris" to the front cover. These are possibly produced with a "professional" model as samples of the work that Peeters portraits can produce for customers. Photographs in as new condition. The cream fold has a touch of darkening and a tiny amount of splitting to the bottom edge of the spine. Folder size 38.5cm x 28.5cm

Il est possible que ces photos aient été produites avec un modèle "professionnel" comme échantillons du travail que Peeters Portraits peut produire pour ses clients. The Kitzsteinhorn is a mountain peak in Salzburg in the Austrian Central Alps with an elevation of 3203 meters. Tidy copy, with a touch of creasing and one small closed tear to the edge. C1890. 230 by 283mm

#2895 - Kaprunerthal, Mooserboden. The reservoir (Mooserboden) with the Kaprun peaks in the distance. Kaprun is a town southwest of Salzburg in the Austrian Alps. It sits at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. Nice photograph with a few small closed tears to the edges (now repaired). 230 by 283mm

René Groebli is a Swiss post-war photographer who worked as reporter for 'Life', 'Picture Post' and other international magazines. He owned a studio for industrial and advertising photography, and in 1957 the American Color Annual named him 'Master of Color'.

London Stereoscope and Photographic Company Ltd, 1889. An attractive collection of 25 published albumen photographs of London, photographed and published by the London Stereoscope company. Original red cloth with gilt titles to the front board. There is some bumping and water staining to the front board particularly. The title page and some page edges are a little foxed, but the images themselves are in very good condition. The pages are each bound in, album style. This is weak in parts, and has been reinforced, but overall is sound. images are 13.5 x 21 cm each. The usual London landmarks are all represented, on streets which seem very empty to the modern eye, and populated by pedestrians, horses and carriages. Album is 300 by 220mm (11¾ by 8¾ inches).

The Parisian publishing house of the brother photographers Étienne and Louis-Antonin Neurdein (1846–1914) was founded in Paris ca. 1885 and published postcards marked with an ND logo. However, Étienne already had begun publishing postcards in 1875 under the firm name Neurdein et Cie (founded by Étienne in 1864.) In 1887, both brothers ran the company, which was known as Neurdein Frères and as ND. Phot. beginning in 1906. In 1915, the name became Neurdein, and then again, from 1916 to 1918, Neurdein & Cie. The Neurdein company was the largest French publisher of postcards of the time. By the turn of the century, they were being funded by the French government to produce images and postcards of Algeria in order to promote colonial tourism and stimulate private investment. france: NA, 1865. 21 albumen photographs on twenty sheets. 6 are hand tinted / coloured photographs of members of the Ouled Nail tribe, found mainly in Bou Saâda in Algeria. 2 appear to be commercial photographs, the other 19 are private photographs. These are attributed to Auguste Maure. He founded a photography studio in Biskra in 1860. Biskra features in several of the photographs here. He is also particularly known for photographing the Ouled Nail tribe. Hand written title. In a contemporary silk and velvet covered folder. It appears that the photographs (which are all laid onto stiff card backing) were originally bound into the folder - but they are now completely loose. Album dimensions: 165 by 100mm (6½ by 4 inches).
