There is a little rubbing and moderate fading to the top inch of the book. Overall clean though. Internally clean and tidy throughout with a little darkening to the pages. A few ink underlinings to the text. Originally published in 1927, Freud analyses religion as a psychological phenomenon, arguing that religious beliefs are illusions stemming from deep-seated human wishes and desires rather than objective reality. This is number 15 in the International Psycho-Analytical Library edited by Ernest Jones. 98 pages. 24cm x 16cm.

Original blue cloth with gilt titles to the front board and spine. The titles to the front board are almost rubbed away. A little bumping otherwise. Bookplate to inside the front board. Gift inscription opposite. The book is in good condition throughout with a little darkening to the pages. Tipped into the rear of the book, are a review of the title by the Manchester Guardian, and the original dust wrapper of the book. This work was an attempt by the Danish economist, to counter the inflation and depression of the previous few years which had come about from an abandoning of the Gold Standard. He suggested that money supply be connected to an index of measurements of market requirements (index linking). 112 pages. 220 x 150 mm.

An interesting English guide dedicated to horse owners, illustrated with a beautiful steel engraving (first printing). based on a work by the author Harry Hieover pseudonym of Charles Bindley (1795/6–1859). Half tan morocco, smooth spine decorated with blind stamped design, gilded title, green percaline boards, the first decorated with a gilt decoration. The boards and spine are in good, clean condition. A touch of rubbing only. Internally the book is in very nice condition. Some light foxing otherwise very good copy. Bookplate of Alfred André, a great bibliophile, from a Nimes Protestant family who made their money in the silk trade, then in banking. He became regent of the Bank of France in 1871. xvi, 216, 32 pages. 32 page edverts fro new works by Longman to rear. 180 by 110mm (7 by 4¼ inches). he author Charles Bindley (1795/6–1859) was a British sports writer specializing in horses and outdoor sports, particularly hunting and stable management.

Complete with four engravings (two hand coloured). Full leather. The spine has been re-laid to the binding, with some loss to the top and bottom edge, and a little loss to the label. Still and attractive binding, with gilt decorated panels. Spine is a little darkened. The boards have triple fillets of gilt to the edges. End papers have been reinforced by the binder. Bookplate of the Rev. B.E. Lampet to the inside board. * To the first blank page, is a gift inscription. "W. Key esq. With White's comps. 1810" This is probably the inscription of John White, the publisher and Gilbert White's nephew and executor. An attractive frontis engraving "Where the Hermit hangs his straw clad cell." Folding engraving of Mytilus. The second volume opens with a folding, hand coloured frontis of a Charadrius Himanlopus (a wading bird!). Slight darkening to this.Title page for volume two. The fourth engraving is an attractive hand coloured illustration of "A hybrid bird." There is moderate darkening of the pages opposite the illustrations, otherwise the book is in excellent, fractionally darkened condition. viii, 392., [ii], 300. pages. 22cm x 14cm. *Reverend Barrett Edward Lampet (1811-1867), was a 19th-century Anglican clergyman, who was primarily the vicar of Great Bardfield in Essex.

The leather is a little rubbed and the gilt faded. Slight cracking to the hinge, but holding well. Complete with three engraved plates (two folding). All three of the engraved plates are found in this, the first of the two volumes. Figures 1 and 2 depict river locks; figure 3 depicts "An Engine to raise water with a chain of buckets." Engraved capitals and end pieces. Internally in good clean condition, in a good, tight condition. Owner's name to the head of the title page. iv, 428, 120 pp. 205 x 130 mm (8 x 5 inches).

John Ray was an English naturalist, widely regarded as one of the earliest of the English parson-naturalists, and the man with whom "the adventure of modern science begins".

Paris / Amsterdam: Simon BENARD / Pierre MORTIER, 1691. Two volumes bound as one. A second edition of the "Voiage du Monde de Descartes" bound in with a First Thus (Amsterdam) copy of the "Suite du voyage du Monde". Unfortunately the First volume lacks the double plate of the Moon. It contains the 18 woodcuts showing celestial systems. The second volume contains 12 woodcuts. Original full leather binding with gilt details to the spine. (Somewhat faded to the spine). The binding is cracking to the hinges with some nicking, but is still holding together. Internally the books are clean and tidy with a little darkening and a couple of isolated foxing spots only. A couple of contemporary inked notes to the inside board. [xiv], 308., [viii], 248. pp. 160 x 100 mm (6¼ x 4 inches). The first volume is scarce in early editions. At the time of writing this description, there are no copies of the "Suite du voyage" available.

These works were the written by the Jesuit Priest, Father Gabriel Daniel (1649-1728), known for his activity as a historiographer and for his History of France. It relates Imaginary journey around the Cartesian universe, composed in the form of satire in the company of Father Mersenne, the author mainly fights the system of vortices. The debate on the question of the Void and Celestial Mechanics was one of the most important of the second half of the 17th century, and all the scientists and metaphysicians of the time brought their point of view to it. Daniel was opposed to Cartesian philosophy, and these treatise are mainly aimed at attacking his Treatise on Light (Published in 1664).

Au moment de la rédaction de cette description, il n'y a pas d'exemplaires de la « Suite du voyage » disponibles.

Le débat sur la question du Vide et de la Mécanique Céleste fut l'un des plus importants de la seconde moitié du XVIIe siècle, et tous les scientifiques et métaphysiciens de l'époque y apportèrent leur point de vue. Daniel était opposé à la philosophie cartésienne, et ces traités visent principalement à attaquer son Traité de la lumière (publié en 1664).
