Liège: Imp. Bénard S.A, 1930. A paper game of 63 numbered squares, spiral, anti-clockwise, centripetal, advertising margarine produced by the company 'Solo' founded in 1929 in Belgium. French version. On the left the rules of the game. In the centre the inscription: 'To the fruits of our colony'. There are quite a few nicks and closed tears to the edges, most are now repaired with archival tape. A touch of darkening to the paper. Jeu de L'oie or Het Gasspel, a kind of goose game, but a colourful piece of Belgian advertising for Sola Margarine. Circa 1930. 460 by 640mm (18 by 25¼ inches). The Game of the Goose or Jeu de l'oie is a type of board game where two or more players move pieces around a track by rolling a die or two dice. The aim of the game is to reach square number sixty-three before any of the other players, while avoiding obstacles. Large colour printed sheet, has a little light creasing, blank to verso.

Paris: Confédération des oeuvres laïques de vacances d'enfants et d'adolescents / Jean Grou-Radenez, 1951. Scarce. Original vintage poster from the Confédération des oeuvres laïques de vacances d'enfants et d'adolescents announcing the sale of stamps for the benefit of their summer holiday camps. These camps were very popular in the 1950s. Edge wear and very small closed tears to creases where poster has been folded. Slight darkening to verso. 845 x 640 mm (33¼ x 25¼ inches).

Emile-Paul Frères, 1931. First edition. Represented for the first time on stage at the Théâtre Pigalle in Paris in November 1931. Illustrated with six engravings by J. E. Laboureur (cover, title, one inset and three chapter headings). One of 200 on vélin d'Arches. Original paperback bound now within a full leather burgundy binding, retaining its covers. Binding signed by E. Kustner. Spine with four raised bands; author and title in gilt. Top edge gilt. A slipcase has been custom made in marbled paper. With a red ribbon bookmark. The leather on the spine has faded. Some offsetting. Overall very good, in a lovely binding. 174 pages. 245 x 200 mm (9¾ x 7¾ inches).

From the bookplate, we can see that this book belonged to Helge Loewenberg-Domp. She was a German musician and music (piano) seller of Jewish parents who escaped to the Netherlands before the war. She later went into hiding with her family, and survived the war. (Her brother died in the camps). She was one of the first to import Japanese pianos to the Netherlands. In the 1970's she was knighted to the Order of Orange-Naussau. Three years later, she founded the Helge Domp Foundation for Music for young musicians. She died in 2021.

Broché original relié maintenant dans une reliure plein cuir bordeaux, conservant ses couvertures. Reliure signée par E. Kustner. Dos à quatre nerfs; auteur et titre dorés. Tranche supérieure dorée. Il y a un étui recouvert de papier marbré sur mesure. Le cuir du dos s'est estompé. Avec un signet en ruban. Un bel exemplaire dans une agréable reliure. 174 pages. 245 x 200 mm.

De l'ex-libris, on peut voir que ce livre appartenait à Helge Loewenberg-Domp. Elle était une musicienne allemande et vendeuse de musique (piano) de parents juifs qui se sont enfuis aux Pays-Bas avant la guerre. Plus tard, elle s'est cachée avec sa famille et a survécu à la guerre. (Son frère est mort dans les camps). Elle a été l'une des premières à importer des pianos japonais aux Pays-Bas. Dans les années 1970, elle est faite chevalier de l'Ordre d'Orange-Naussau. Trois ans plus tard, elle fonde la Helge Domp Foundation for Music pour les jeunes musiciens. Elle est décédée en 2021.

Amsterdam: 1986 / 2017. Five black and white digital prints - after Ilford negative 1986. Signed in pen and pencil by the photographer (on reverse side). The 4 photo-diptychs and 1 photo show Haring at work, discussing his work, drawing and surrounded by ghetto blaster, cassette tapes, and spray cans. Printed on matte 300 gms paper. In 1986, New York graffiti artist Keith Haring was invited to exhibit by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He was also asked to spray a velum with his characteristic 'playing men'. This velum has been shown again recently at the Stedelijk Museum. Photo press followed Haring at work, and these images are part of a photo shoot with Chris Reinewald, then journalist for 'Plug' - a cultural youth magazine. In fine condition. 210 x 298 mm (8¼ x 11¾ inches).

KÖLN: Kunstsalon Hermann Abels, 1929. A scarce early catalogue of Kokoschka's work at the gallery of Hermann Abels. Orange soft covers with blue text and design (in the Constructivist style). Title, frontis photograph of Kokoschka from 1921. There are two further full page black and white illustrations of his work, and a map of the gallery. 7 pages of details of his works on offer. This was a significant exhibition, and works in it are referenced by leading auction houses. It is frequently referenced by the Fondation Oskar Kokoschka. 20pp. Moderate foxing to the title page, but otherwise a clean and tidy copy. Covers are in very nice condition. 210 by 160mm (8¼ by 6¼ inches).

Frankfurt am Main: Literarische Anstalt Rütten & Loening, 1880. A very nice copy of this German children's book. 32nd edition (stated on cover). Illustrated boards with a bugler doing his thing. Adverts for publisher to the rear board. Red cloth spine. There seemed to be many variants of this popular work. This copy is on stiff card boards (rather than paper) 32 pages, with the title as the verso of page one. Each page is in one or two columns of verse (In German), with an attractive lithographed picture to each page. The lithographing is very high quality, and gives the impression of hand colouring. The boards are a little rubbed, but sound. The pages have darkening to the card stock, particularly to the page edges. Overall an attractive copy. 280 by 225mm (11 by 8¾ inches) Heinrich Hoffmann's second picture book, a "toy picture book, for which Hofmann had got all sorts of toys on his trip to Nuremberg and which he now brought to life in a fairytale-like plot" (Dyhrenfurth, p. 125)

Chaque page est composée d'une ou deux colonnes de vers (en allemand), avec une belle image lithographiée sur chaque page. La lithographie est de très bonne qualité et donne l'impression d'être coloriée à la main. Les planches sont un peu frottées, mais saines. Les pages présentent un assombrissement du papier cartonné, en particulier sur les bords des pages. Dans l'ensemble, il s'agit d'un exemplaire attrayant. 280 x 225 mm (11 x 8¾ pouces)

Brie-Comte-Robert: Les Bibliolâtres de France, 1937. First edition. Original stiff card slipcase covered in buckram. Card boards. [vii]-xi, 40 pages, 1 leaf including VIII plates (including portrait, facsimiles) on 4 leaves. Unknown limitation, but states that this is a copy on papier d'Arches printed for M. Albéric Cahuet. Boards and slipcase are a touch dusty, but overall in very good condition. Inside, the papers, in French Folds, are in immaculate condition. A very nice copy. Albéric Cahuet was a pen name of Albert-Camille-Jean Cahuet (1877-1942). A French journalist and writer. His doctoral thesis was an attack on censorship. Although he wrote widely, particularly for L'Illustration, he is mostly remembered today as the author of Pontcarral published in 1937. 290 x 200 mm (11½ x 7¾ inches).
