Lucian Freud was undoubtedly a great realist artist. In the secrecy of his workshop the models exposed themselves to the painter's gaze, his brush recomposing their bodies into art which can be both fascinating and repulsive. Two original lithographs by Miotte (including cover), both in colour. These were original for this issue. The soft covers are pretty clean, but the paper spine has a touch of cracking to the bottom edge/. Inside is in excellent, original condition, with just a touch of marking to it. A nice copy of a scarce art item. 24 pages. 360 x 280 mm (14¼ x 11 inches).

First edition in French of the "Technical Manifesto of Futurist Painting" signed by the artists Umberto Boccioni, Carlo D. Carrà, Luigi Russolo, Giacomo Balla, Gino Severini. Compared to the Italian version, the French version has five more statements present in the previous "Manifesto of Futurist painters" published on February 11, 1910. The present edition thus includes all thirteen main points of Futurist painting. This contains a library stamp to the front page (not legible as too faint). The work appears to have been tipped into a different format, and later removed, and there is a small area (6.5cm x 2cm) neatly cut from the corner of the document (not affecting text.) Munich: 1967. Original watercolour on handmade paper - in pen, ink, oil paint. This abstract work is in black, earthy green, orange, grey and blue tones almost resembles a Viking longboat. There are scribbled elements of Informalism. All Mehling's work remained untitled, though the works do state the year of origin, usually the month and often the techniques used. This work was done in February 1967. As Mehling was also a pharmacist in Munich at this time, he enjoyed experimenting with mixing his own paints, pigments and inks. An original by "the German master of the small format" (Haudenschild + Laubscher 1968). In metallic effect wooden frame, under glass, with heavy white mount. Signed in pencil at bottom centre.

Hofheim: 1977. Original watercolour on handmade paper - in pen, ink, and gold dust paint. This abstract work is in earthy green and brown tones, with black backwash. There are calligraphic elements reminiscent of the aesthetics of East Asian characters. This illegible writing conveys the impression of poetry or musical scores. Mehling felt that Arabic or Asian writing becomes an aesthetic experience when one can't read it, so he used this concept often in his works of Informalism. All Mehling's work remained untitled, though the works do state the year of origin, usually the month and often the techniques used. This work was done in January 1977. As Mehling was also a pharmacist in his earlier years, he enjoyed experimenting with mixing his own paints, pigments and inks. Haarlem & Rotterdam: 1847. Delightful album in the form of a small cloth covered box. Inside a folded decorative inner envelope, containing a selection of original artwork and keepsakes. In total there are 21 original miniature artworks. Comprising: one double size folded original pencil drawing with tissue guard, and eight other lovely pencil drawings. Also six colour original watercolours - all but one of exquisite flowers. One sepia scene of two hunters. And two watercolours done on rice paper. Also two delightful examples of cross stitch and one decoupage, all in flower designs. There is also one pinprick flower design, which is very intricate and skillfully done. There are three handwritten ink notes inside - all in Dutch. One of the notes signed C. Gleichman, talks approximately: "when you are in Haarlem, you will certainly get other girlfriends, but I hope that you will not forget the Rotterdamische". The other two notes are signed J. Doeleman (Jacobus Doeleman) sent to to his pupil Cornelia (presumably Cornelia Gleichman) from Haarlem. All pages have edges in gilt. Most of the art is dated with personal messages and signatures. 90 x 155 mm (3½ x 6 inches).
