This is one of the 500 on papíer teinté, but this copies is out of series, and so has no number. Original yellow paper wrappers. These have some darkening and marking to the covers, and have splitting to the spine edges (now repaired with archival tape). In early / original (?) glassine covers. A large paper copy, with sheets of differing sizes. These are a little darkened, and have some nicking and edgewear to the brittle page edges. First and only edition of this bibliography of books relating to cuckoldry. (A cuckold is the husband of an adulterous wife - just in case you were too embarrassed to ask)! After the yellow pages, is a "post face rose" with an amusing postscript by J.N. Cornutus. The author's name is an anagram of the actual authors name. The work is an amusing, end of the century work on a somewhat taboo subject. in French and wider European symbolism, yellow became a colour of betrayal, shame, and infidelity. Medieval imagery often associated yellow with Judas and with traitors more broadly, so the colour gradually extended from treachery in general to marital betrayal specifically. xxviii, [29]-103, [iii]. pp. 22.5cm x 14cm.

. Première édition. Couverture souple d'origine.
