This volume contains the entries from "Passion" to "Linen" and many of the plates have wonderful images of people expressing different moods in the style of Lavater. Hardback, in paper covered boards (age uncertain but likely mid 20th Century) Original label pasted to the spine. Clean and tidy. Internally clean and tidy throughout, a little creasing to the edges of the folding plates, but overall in excellent condition.     A collection of nursery rhymes and folk songs of the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka - known at the time as Ceylon. In the foreword, by Sir Solomon Dias Bandaranaike, he writes "In terms of pure decorative art Heather Hamer is spiritually in the direct line of descent from Aubrey Beardsley, and the application of her gift to Sinhalese subjects is a happy piece of good fortune for us." In her preface, Hamer states that most of the rhymes in the book were taken from an old volume of 'The Taprobanian' (1887), or gathered from local people, having been passed down over many generations.

It stated that it included 98 gravures, but most of these are black and white vignettes. The work contained 11 full colour lithographic plates engraved by LARTAUD and printed by Geny-Gros. A scarce item, the best example seems to be that of the Wellcome Collection (K30262). They also show the same 11 plates. The plates are in good, clean condition, with just a touch of foxing spots here and there. The reverse shows where each has been removed from the original book. (Not by us of course). 11 pages. 270 by 190mm (10¾ by 7½ inches).

Named after the Festival of Britain's Lion and the Unicorn Pavilion, the 'Lion and Unicorn Press' was established with the aim of producing finely designed and typeset books, illustrated, printed and bound at the Royal College of Art.

End papers showing the plan of Kensington Gardens. Overall decent condition with moderate foxing throughout. Gift inscription to half title page.
