This was the first trade edition. Printed at the Curwen Press. 256 pages. 215 x 140 mm (8½ x 5½ inches). Dust wrapper has a tiny amount of nicking to the head and tail of the spine. A couple of spots / marking to the cream, otherwise in very good condition. Dust wrapper is neatly clipped. Clean and tidy pale cloth. Internally very nice condition throughout.

London, New York and Melbourne: Ward, Lock, and Co, 1888. First Edition. Two volumes. Red half leather with cloth boards; gilt stamped title to leather spine label. Boards are rubbed and worn to corners and somewhat split at spine on both volumes. Presentation bookplate to front of each volume dated 1895 from The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty. With a frontispiece in each volume and several b/w illustrations throughout. Inside the books are in a good condition with virtually no foxing. iv, 704, 698 pp. 255 x 180 mm (10 x 7 inches).

Cambridge University Press, 1969. Second edition. Burgundy cloth with gilt titles. No dust wrapper. Very clean and tidy boards. Internally clean, but with library stamp (and withdrawal mark) to the title page. Evidence of removal of the slips from the inside board and front end paper. Otherwise in very good clean condition. A little staining to the closed page edge (bottom) of the book. xiv, 338 pages.

London: B.T. Batsford Ltd: 1922. First edition. This is Volume IV of The Library of Decorative Art, but is complete in itself. Gift inscription by Harry Batsford (Chairman of B.T. Batsford) to A. E. Doyle, a member of staff at Batsfords. Original burgundy cloth with gilt titles. The binding is sound, but slightly loose, with the result that one of the gathers has become detached (but still present). Burgundy boards have a little rubbing and discolouration, mainly to the rear board, but mainly sound. Internally clean throughout. Inscription by Batsford and one other. 269 pages. 360 by 280mm (14¼ by 11 inches).

Oxford: University Press, 2005. First edition. The story of probably one of the most controversial Irishmen of all time, who was a friend and ally of Michael Collins. First edition in original dust jacket. Twelve pages of fascinating photographs. Fine in fine, unclipped dust jacket. Now in removable clear protective wrapping. xvi, 442 pp. 240 x 165 mm (9½ x 6½ inches).

O'Duffy was an Irish nationalist military leader and popular conservative head of Fine Gael ("Irish Race"), who played a significant role in the development of the Irish armed forces and police. His support of fascism during the 1930s, however, cost him much of his popular support.

The author Fearghal Mcgarry is an Historian of Modern Ireland, based at Queen's University Belfast.

On his death Westreenen left his house and collections to the State of the Netherlands, which was the basis for the Museum Meermanno-Westreenianum, containing the second largest collection of incunabula (around 1,500) in the Netherlands. Paper bound. Text in French. 33 pages. 230 x 150 mm (9 x 6 inches). Rare première édition de la brève histoire des ordres de chevalerie aux Pays-Bas. À sa mort, Westreenen a laissé sa maison et ses collections à l'État des Pays-Bas, qui était la base du musée Meermanno-Westreenianum, contenant la deuxième plus grande collection d'incunables (environ 1 500) aux Pays-Bas. Lyon: Society for the Propogation of the Faith, 1838. First edition. A single sheet, folded octavo, with 8 printed pages, uncut. This comprises two articles extracted from Annals of the Propagation of the Faith. One is a summary of the income and expenditure of the missions. An interesting summary - showing which of the missions and individuals received grants. The other, is a summary of the work of the missions, first published in the Dublin Review (no. 8). Overall, this is in a good condition. There is a touch of marking to the rear page only. Otherwise very clean and tidy.

Roger Pic (1920 - 2001) was a French photojournalist famed for his portraits and documentaries on anti-colonial struggles. He visited Cuba in the late 50's and 60's; forging personal relationships with both Che Guevara and Fidel Castro. This closeness enabled Pic to achieve images of unusual relaxation and candor. 205 x 305 mm (8 x 12 inches).

The Northern Babylon; 4. All Ireland v. North East Ulster; 5. Orange Justices and Juries. 6. Protestant Ascendancy. The rear cover has "some facts about Proselytism". A clean and tidy booklet. A touch of darkening to the wrappers only. 32 pages.

London and Strassburg: Trübner & Co, 1876. Ex-library, in green cloth hardback binding. The cloth has split to the front hinge, for the entire length, but as this is a surface split, the binding is holding well. There are the usual library stamps inside, plus a bookplate to the front which says it was donated to the library by the executors of the late W. J. Ashdown Esq. Overall an interesting, in generally good condition, and scarce. xvi, 231 pp. 230 x 145 mm (9 x 5¾ inches).
