Wien: L. Burmann, 1830. First edition. An attractive epinal style engraving showing the king inspecting his dignitaries. Attractive hand colouring. This has two numbers printed upon it - so seems to have been used in at least two collections (No 447 and No 459). The engraving is circa 1830. Good clean impression and colouring. A little darkening / mustiness. 220 by 320mm (8¾ by 12½ inches)

Owner's ink inscription to the inside front board. There is a faded library stamp and quite a few small perforated stamps throughout to the bottom edge (not affecting text). 7 lithographed plates (by Steen & P.W.M. Trap). Plates are in good condition. The pages are a little darkened to the edges, but overall a decent copy of this scarce first edition. VIII, 346, [ii] pages. 190 by 120mm (7½ by 4¾ inches).

The author brings the precocious American rich kid Eloise to Paris, and she certainly makes the most of it! Follow her outrageous exploits - most not really aimed at younger children - whilst visiting the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and the Opera, with her long suffering Nanny. It's champagne and baguettes all the way. With in text illustrations by Hilary Knight. The dust jacket is a little age toned, with a few nicks / tears to the top. London: B.T. Batsford Ltd: 1922. First edition. This is Volume IV of The Library of Decorative Art, but is complete in itself. Gift inscription by Harry Batsford (Chairman of B.T. Batsford) to A. E. Doyle, a member of staff at Batsfords. Original burgundy cloth with gilt titles. The binding is sound, but slightly loose, with the result that one of the gathers has become detached (but still present). Burgundy boards have a little rubbing and discolouration, mainly to the rear board, but mainly sound. Internally clean throughout. Inscription by Batsford and one other. 269 pages. 360 by 280mm (14¼ by 11 inches).
