London: Kegan, Paul Trench, Trubner & Co, 1895. First edition. A very nice copy of this illustrated edition. Bound in full leather by Rickers & Son of London. The calf is a little faded in places and rubbed to the edges. Title in gilt to the spine. All edges gilt. Slight weakness to the binding at the half title page but holding well. The text block is in very good, clean condition. This copy belonged to Lady Eden, and there is a lovely gift (if rather fawning) inscription from W. Peel. Probably William Robert Wellesley Peel, 1st Earl Peel (1867-1937) the grandson of Sir Robert Peel. Lady Eden was Sybil Frances Grey (1867-1945), the daughter of Sir William Grey, and mother of Sir Anthony Eden. Two of her other sons were to die in action in the first world war. She was painted by several eminent artists including John Singer Sargent and James Macniel Whistler. The later famously ended in a court case when her husband refused to pay Whistler's bill, and the painting was eventually destroyed. She died in 1945. A very nice association copy. 120 pages. 19cm x 13cm.

Slight splitting to surface of spine edge. Monogram bookplate to the inside board. Slight weakness to the binding at the title, and darkening to the page edges, but overall a very respectable copy. Portrait of Lady Bury and 6 engraved aquatints (complete). Sadlier 480: "This pious memorial to her husband (he died in 1832) was surely erected at Lady Charlotte's expense. the drawings are of considerable merit and beautifully reproduced. I include the book, despite its poetical character, for the sake of the drawings, and in order that its existence may be known." Having said that, there is a significant list of Royal Subscribers at the beginning of the book. xiv, 140 pages.

London: Basil Montagu Pickering, 1874. Second edition. Three volumes. Uniform calf boards with gilt decoration and red and burgundy labels to the spine. The boards are slightly loose, and the binding a little cracked to the hinges, but still holding well. A little rubbing to the spine and edges, with some loss, but otherwise in clean condition. Marbled page edges. Internally clean and tidy with a little foxing only. Frere's complete works were published in 1871, with a memoir by his nephews W.E. and Sir Henry Bartie frere. This is the second enlarged edition. John Hookham Frere (1769-1846) was an English diplomat and author. His reputation now largely rests on his translations of Aristophanes. His "prospectus and specimen", a mock Arthurian poem, was used extensively by Byron in "Don Juan." Bookplate and signature of Reginald Heber Macaulay from his Eton master Francis St John Thackeray on the occasion of his leaving Eton in 1878. Macaulay (1858-1937) was an amateur English footballer who won the FA cup for the Old Etonians in 1882 and made an appearance for England in 1881. viii, 354., viii, 426., 436. pages. 22cm x 14cm.

Couvertures souples originales, avec une belle décoration, et des illustrations de vignettes à l'intérieur par Theo Van Rysselberghe. Texte en Francais. Les couvertures ont un peu de décoloration / virage au soleil, et la pointe même des deux coins inférieurs a été perdue. France: S.P, 2015. An original portrait of William S. Burroughs on cardboard. The artist has used spray paint and stencil to produce a striking image of Burroughs. The artist has torn away some of the layers of card, to reveal unpainted card and elements of the corrugated card. To these, is stamped "Peule la poésie est révolutionnaire" (Only poetry is revolutionary). An also in black ink by hand the title, date and artists name. Blank to the verso (with just a few spots of the green ink. 30cm x 24cm. An attractive and unusual portrait.

. Portrait original de William S. Burroughs sur carton. L'artiste a utilisé de la peinture en aérosol et un pochoir pour produire une image saisissante de Burroughs. L'artiste a déchiré certaines des couches de carton pour révéler le carton non peint et des éléments du carton ondulé. Sur ces derniers, il a apposé l'inscription "Peule la poésie est révolutionnaire". Le titre, la date et le nom de l'artiste sont également inscrits à la main à l'encre noire.
