    New York: Harper & Row, 1972. First U.S. edition. Large softback book, with colour illustrated covers. 16 pages text + 96 posters, some in colour and some in b/w. Includes posters by artists Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, John Hassall and Paul Colin. These covering the century from 1872-1972 when the book was published. Bevis Hillier is an English art historian, author and journalist who was educated at Magdelan College, Oxford. He is the author of many books, mainly on art and design. Covers are in good shape, with just a touch of handling. Contents clean and bright. 420 x 290 mm (16½ x 11½ inches)

This beautiful uncoloured aquatint is plate four of a series of four fox-hunting prints produced by S & I Fuller, at the Sporting Gallery, known as the "Leicestershire Covers." by Thomas Sutherland (1785-1838) after Henry Thomas Alken. Dated March 1824. aquatint is 11" x 30" the sheet is 171/2" x 35". NB. We also have Plate One for sale. ALKEN, Henry (1785 - 1851) was from a family of sporting artists, signing his early work 'Ben Tally Ho'. A keen sportsman he gave an authentic feel to his hunting prints and pictures. He became widely known for his sporting prints and pictures as well as his watercolour hunting, coaching and shooting scenes.

    Condition: The aquatint is a good clean impression, and there is minimal handling to it. A touch of marking and handling to the edge of the sheet. Overall a very nice copy of this work.

    Original etching on thick laid paper. Circa 1885. Signed in the plate. Sold unframed. Nice deep impression. From Slocombe's Views on the Thames series. This is plate No. 3, a view from what is now known as Cliveden, near Taplow in Berkshire. Frederick Slocombe was a British artist who painted landscapes and coastal scenes, but is better known for his work as an etcher. His landscapes convey the characteristic serene atmosphere of the English countryside. Has two eye holes in the outer margin at the top - assume where once displayed in a book / file.

These were very fashionable in the late 18th century.

    Condition: Good. Narrow margins. Slightly wrinkled. Water stain on the right.
