Andegavi / Angera: Caroli Mame, 1826. A very nice copy of this large Psalter / Brevary created for the use of churches in the Diocese of Angers. Complete. Full title is: "Psalterium despositum Per Hebdomadam juxta ritum Breviarii Andegavensis recens recogniti, una cum officiis B. Mariae Virginis et defunctorum: nec non psalmis et canticis, quibusdam festis solemnioribus propriis: illustrissimi et reverendissimi in Christo Partris D.D. Caroli Montault, episcopi Andegavensis Auctoritate, ac venerabilis capituli consensu editum". Extra large format for public speaking. With music an vignette illustrations. Full leather binding with gilt titles and decoration to the spine. There is rubbing to the boards and a split to the surface layer of the spine affecting the label. Binding is very slightly shaken with cracking to the paper on the front end paper. There rest of the work is generally in good, clean condition. There are a few places where there is weakness to the binding and some soiling / edgewear to a few page edges. There is a tear with corner loss to page 235 / 236. There is also a large closed tear to page 151/152 without loss. See photos. Heavy laid paper with large text. A beautiful edition. 46cm x 30cm.

La reliure est très légèrement secouée et le papier de la première page de garde est craquelé. Le reste de l'ouvrage est généralement en bon état et propre. Il y a quelques endroits où la reliure est affaiblie et quelques salissures / usures sur les bords des pages. Il y a une déchirure avec perte d'un coin à la page 235 / 236. Veuillot was a French Ultramontane (one who puts the authority of the Pope above all secular authority in all matters) and wrote much in support of the Papacy, and particularly criticizing more Liberal Catholics of the time. His work for the Papacy was recognised by Pius IX, the subject of this work. There is a touch of darkening to the paper covers. Otherwise, a clean and tidy copy, inside and out. Wilkes Barre, PA: The Collins Press, 1940. Cream stapled paper covers with red titles and decoration (with an engraving of Christ Crucified). Publisher's details to the rear cover. Each of the stations has a verse and response, a description, and short thought. There is no imprimatur and the cover states that the work is only to be used for private devotion. The booklet is beautifully clean, inside and out, with no significant marks. COPAC cites this work as another edition of Social Justice and the Stations of the Cross, and gives the publication date as 1940. 16 pages. 145 x 90 mm (5¾ x 3½ inches).

Devon County Club / R. Cullum, 1821. First Edition / First issue of this pamphlet. Printed by R. Cullum of Exeter. Sewn. No outside binding. Pages 1-16 are comprised of Jones' speech, and pages 17-24 are notes in favour of Emancipation.
The outside pages (title and rear page - there is no cover) are a little darkened and have some markings to them. A little edgewear to the pages, with slight creasing to the corners. Internally clean and tidy with intermittent foxing only. This copy bears the ownership signature of Captain La Roche. Probably Henry La Roche, of Halberton, Devon. Captain of the Royal Navy and J.P. He had served in various vessels during the wars with France from 1792, obtaining the rank of Commander in 1804 and Post Captain in 1806. He died in Devon in 1832. See Gentleman's Magazine. Such opinions cost him advancement in the church, although the Earl of Shrewsbury eventually gave him a benefice. Jones was born at Chudleigh, Devon, where no doubt he was aware at least of the Clifford family. Jones was also an antiquarian, writing several books on the history, and natural history of Devon.

Anvers / Antwerp: chez J. Haest, 1665. A lovely copy of this engraving by Cornelius Schut, under a large passe partout. Signed in the plate, published by Haest of Antwerp. In near perfect condition, this engraving shows the Adoration of the Shepherds. With the Holy Family on the left and cherubs in the sky. The text engraved states `Cor: Schut in cum priuileg; à Anvers chez J.Haest.´ Very good impression with plate tone on laid paper with generous margins around. 15,7 x 11,0 cm. The passe partout is a generous 40cm x 29.5cm, and is very clean and neat. There are no marks or holes / edge wear to the sheet. This appears to be a third state of the engraving, which was re-worked by Haest after Schut's death. A rare item.

The brown wrappers are clean, but there is chipping to the spine, and a tear to perhaps a third of the length of the spine. Internally very clean and tidy throughout, with just a touch of darkening to the closed page edge. The first of the 4 issues (1833-1837). Includes papers on the work in Ceylon (relief of the Catholics, lists of the Catholic churches), St Lucia, Demerara, abolition of slavery, and the proposals for forming the "British Catholic Society for the Promotion of the Knowledge of Christianity". Included is a long letter from Lord Clifford, which discusses that he will be attending Rome with his Father in Law (Cardinal Weld). 80pp. 80pp.
