This may have been intended for the overseas market, as the publisher "Bruna" is written to the base of the spine. 125 full page b/w reproductions of Frasnay's photographs, and corresponding text between. Overall in very good clean condition. A small split to the bottom of the spine has been repaired. 280 x 210 mm (11 x 8¼ inches). Bel exemplaire de cette première édition. Imprimé aux Pays-Bas (texte en français) pour une maison d'édition française. Copy #215 of 3000 on Erasmus wove paper made especially for the book. With several wonderful colour illustrations (including frontis portrait) by Philippe Swyncop. Leather on spine has faded, all leather on boards has some rubbing, as does all edges. Pages are slightly toned, but there is zero foxing, and the book is in a very good condition overall. 191 pages plus table of contents. 255 x 200 mm (10x 7¾ inches).

Paris: Union de Littérature et d'Art - Librairie F. Tassel, 1908. A beautiful copy of this novel, set in Sicily. The edition comprised two limited editions and a trade edition. A Japon of 2 copies and 10 on Papier de Hollande. Our copy is one of the Van Gelder / Hollande, although the number hasn't been written on the limitation, so it may be an HC copy for the author. Beautiful binding by BLANCHETIÈRE, signed to the front end paper. Brown three quarters morocco with matching marbled boards. Attractive design of leaf patterns in two shades of brown to the spine. Gilt titles to the spine. In fine condition, with just a touch of handling.
The book has been signed by Doderet to the half title page, with an inscription to LOUIS LOVIOT. To one of the initial pages is an original silver gelatin photograph of the author. This has offset in a rather attractive way to the facing page, with a sepia negative image. Original green paper covers are bound in - these are in excellent condition. The 340 pages of the work are cut in differing sizes (as is common in a French large paper copy), and are in very good, clean condition. To page 290/291, the binder has inserted a postcard, addressed to Loviot, (and dated 1905). The postcard shows young boys swimming on a beach, and bears the title. "Monelli alla pesce della arcele." Overall a lovely example of this work. André Doderet is best known for his work on Italian literature, he notably translated Gabriele d'Annunzio. Louis Loviot, (1885-1918) was a French librarian and author, who amassed a fine collection of works. 200 by 140mm (7¾ by 5½ inches).

Belle reliure de BLANCHETIÈRE, signée sur la première page de garde. Maroquin brun aux trois quarts, plats marbrés assortis. Le dos est orné d'un joli motif de feuilles en deux tons de brun. Titres dorés au dos. En très bon état, avec juste un peu de manipulation.
Le livre a été signé par Doderet sur la demi-page de titre, avec une inscription à LOUIS LOVIOT. Sur l'une des premières pages se trouve une photographie originale au gélatino-argentique de l'auteur. Celle-ci a été décalée d'une manière assez attrayante sur la page en regard, avec une image négative en sépia. Les couvertures originales en papier vert sont reliées - elles sont en excellent état. Les 340 pages de l'ouvrage sont coupées en différentes tailles (comme c'est souvent le cas dans un exemplaire français sur grand papier) et sont en très bon état. Aux pages 290/291, le relieur a inséré une carte postale adressée à Loviot (et datée de 1905). La carte postale montre de jeunes garçons nageant sur une plage et porte le titre. "Monelli alla pesce della arcele". Dans l'ensemble, il s'agit d'un bel exemple de cette œuvre. André Doderet est surtout connu pour ses travaux sur la littérature italienne, il a notamment traduit Gabriele d'Annunzio. Louis Loviot (1885-1918) était un bibliothécaire et auteur français qui a amassé une belle collection d'ouvrages. 200 x 140 mm

Text in French. Boards are rubbed, particularly to corners. Split along spine edge to front board, but all holding together. Inside there is a repair to issue #12 from March 1897. There are other small repairs, and several small closed tears to some page edges. Overall in a good condition inside. 245 x 190 mm (9¾ x 7½ inches). Gilt titles. Owner's bookplate to the inside paste down and the verso of the original cover. Decorative title is printed using an alphabet of bodies (both skeletons and live ones!) Last reprint using the original woodblocks which were in possession of Garnier and taking over the original French wording from the 1486 Paris incunabula edition. The binding is in good strong clean condition. Likewise, the original paper binding is strong and clean. The text / illustration block is in beautiful condition, with a good, strong strike. The only flaw is a bookplate to the verso of the paper cover. 260 by 205mm (10¼ by 8 inches). Avec 56 bois gravés originaux - 67 pp. 4to. Emballages originaux en papier crème. Paris: Vaugirard, 1907. A lovely copy of this first edition, with lengthy gift inscription and unrecorded poem. Attractive red half leather binding with marbled boards. Attractive gilt decoration to the spine. There is cracking / splitting to the top edge of the front board, and it is in danger of becoming detached. Marbled endpapers and ex libris of Yves Refoule. Legrand has inscribed a 12 line poem and gift inscription to his friend Refoule. In addition, there are a few handwritten annotations and corrections to the text of the poems. It would appear that these were corrections made by Legrand. 30 pages. Music hall administrator, critic and historian, a specialist in circus and music-hall performances between the wars, Legrand collaborated closely with Jean-Marcel Chabrier and they produced many works as Andre Legrand Chabrier. Bel exemplaire de cette première édition, avec une longue inscription de cadeau et un poème non enregistré. Jolie reliure demi-cuir rouge à plats marbrés. Jolie décoration dorée au dos. Il y a des fissures / fissures sur le bord supérieur du panneau avant, et il risque de se détacher. Gardes marbrées et ex libris d'Yves Refoulé. Legrand a inscrit un poème de 12 vers et une inscription cadeau à son ami Refoule. De plus, il y a quelques annotations et corrections manuscrites au texte des poèmes. Il semblerait qu'il s'agisse de corrections faites par Legrand. 30 pages. Administrateur de music-hall, critique et historien, spécialiste des spectacles de cirque et de music-hall de l'entre-deux-guerres, Legrand collabora étroitement avec Jean-Marcel Chabrier et ils produisirent de nombreuses œuvres comme André Legrand Chabrier.

Paris: H. Floury, 1908. An original lithograph from "l'homme et l'artiste". One of only 175 copies. Image is 19cm x 15.5cm on a sheet 25 x 19.5cm. This is held on passe partout measuring 50cm x 40cm. Signed in the plate. A beautiful example of this haunting image. Both image and passe partout are in excellent condition. Label with print information to the reverse of the passe partout (in German). Félicien Victor Joseph Rops (1833–1898) was a Belgian artist associated with Symbolism and the Parisian Fin-de Siecle. He was a painter, illustrator, caricaturist and a prolific and innovative print maker, particularly in intaglio (etching and aquatint). This image "La grève" (The Strike) (1876) etching, drypoint (19.8 x 15.2 cm) now held in the Michael C. Carlos Museum, Emory University, Atlanta.

Boulanger was a prolific novelist and Olympic fencer. He obtained this inscribed copy towards the beginning of his career 304 pages. 200 by 160mm (7¾ by 6¼ inches).
